to present M.S. Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences
August 2005 University of Puerto Rico, Cayey Campus Cayey, PR
to June 2009 B.S. Mathematics
RESEARCH AND PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
September 2011 Project Assistant (S. Ackerman, R. Kuehn, and R. Holz) Madison, WI
to present UW-Madison Space Science and Engineering Center
Validating a CALIPSO boundary layer detection algorithm with the
use of TAMDAR data.
September 2009 Research Assistant (Will E. Lewis and Gregory Tripoli) Madison, WI
to present University of Wisconsin-Madison
Hurricane Rita case study using GOES-12 10.7 micron brightness temperatures for EnKF
assimilation to improve predictions of hurricane track and intensity. Also working on the
implementation of an adaptive horizontal covariance localization scheme to improve upon
EnKF assimilation results.
September 2010 to Teaching Assistant for AOS 101 (Professor Steve Ackerman) Madison, WI
December 2010 University of Wisconsin-Madison
Instructor for the Introduction to Weather and Climate discussion session. Obligations
included lecturing, preparing lab activities and examinations, holding office hours and
grading. Also performed laboratory demonstrations using a rotating platform.
June 2009 to Summer Intern and Team Lead (NASA Goddard - PGL/LPSA) Greenbelt, MD
August 2009 Group Research: Operations and Analysis of the Lunar Orbiter Laser Altimeter (LOLA)/Laser
Ranging (LR) Experiment of the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter
Used LRO instrument data to calculate albedo and map parts of the lunar surface as leader of a
four-student research team.
January 2009 Project Lead Cayey, PR
to May 2009 University of Puerto Rico-Cayey
Group Research: Monitoring Climate Change in Puerto Rico for the Past Twenty Years from
Temperature and Precipitation Measurements
Used meteorological data to determine precipitation and temperature trends to quantify
regional climate change. This project was funded by the NASA Assistantships for Research
(NAR) program from the NASA Puerto Rico Space Grant Consortium (PRSGC).
June 2008 to Summer Intern (NASA Goddard Space Flight Center) Greenbelt, MD
August 2008 Research: Modification of the Graphical User Interface (GUI) of the Earth Observing System
Data and Operations System (EDOS)
Website design (xml & java) to update data search and retrieval from EDOS. Improved
overall functionality and data filtering abilities.
Summer Intern (NASA Goddard SFC Instrumentation Sciences Branch)
June 2007 to Greenbelt, MD
August 2007 Research: Hurricane Intensity and Ocean Vertical Structure
Validated upper ocean heat content (UOHC) estimates obtained from satellite/altimeter data with
the use of XCP, XBT, and XCTD profiling system data. UOHC estimates are used in models to
predict hurricane intensity.
FIELD WORK EXPERIENCE
August 2011 NOAA Hurricane Hunter Program Tampa, FL
Participated in the first flight into Hurricane Irene aboard NOAA s P-3 research aircraft as a
visiting scientist.
June 2009 Sudbury Impact Crater Expedition Ontario, Canada
One-week NASA project which simulated a research expedition to another planet to collect data
for ground truth comparisons. The expedition was led by Dr. Paul Lowman, NASA-Goddard SFC.
