Professional Experience
Urban and Transport Planning Consultant Provides strategic and management consulting on transport and urban planning. Projects research program development and evaluation, transport research (public transport operations, railway operations and application of IT to transport systems), project management, and specialized communications services including proposal development, technical editing and translation. Key clients include the Austrian Federal Ministry of Transportation (BMVIT), the European Union, the City of Vienna, WienerLinien, Glattalbahn VBG and OpenTrack Railway Technology Ltd.
Lecturer University of Applied Sciences BFI Vienna Lecturer for Logistics English 2 in department of Logistics and Transport Management.
Researcher (IVT) (2001 2003, 2005 2007) Performed research on public transport efficiency, rail network operations and planning, and the use of information technology in railway operations. Assisted in planning and organizing technical conferences including the Future of High Speed Rail (2007). Also responsible for translating and editing technical reports, presentations, and websites.
Independent Research Consultant (2001 2003, 2005 2007) Completed a wide variety of transport planning and research projects including preparation of research reports, presentations at technical conferences, and organizing study tours. Clients included the, San Francisco Planning and Urban Research (SPUR), and European Union project AlpNet.
Transportation Planner Parsons Transportation Group (2004) Transportation consulting and research including environmental impact studies, transportation plans, and local government planning. Projects included Transbay Terminal EIS/EIR and South Sacramento LRT Extension EIS/EIR. Awarded prize for writing one of the company s best research papers for 2004, What if Southwest Airlines ran the Muni? or Lessons for public transit from the low cost airline industry.
Executive Director (2000 2001) Directed government agency with annual budget of over $130 million, 12 staff members and numerous consultant contracts. Responsible for all aspects of management including coordination with elected official board members, staff administration, program delivery, economic analysis, policy development, and public relations. Projects included:Completion of draft Countywide Transport Plan (2000) Draft long term plan for San Francisco transport infrastructure development and financing. Plan included several innovative ideas and programs including congestion pricing for new underground roadway facilities and neighbourhood-based coordinated transport/land-use planning. Here s a link to the December 2000 CWTP Executive Summary.Administrative Re-organization Successfully completed administrative re-organization of agency including new Administrative Code, creation of public involvement database, preparation of first employee handbook and revised staffing program.Project Management Assisted and facilitated project management staff in successfully launching several large projects including development of county-wide transport modal and major highway infrastructure project.
Project Manager San Mateo County Transit District (1995 1999) Managed large engineering and planning studies for commuter rail system. Responsible for managing consultant teams, developing technical solutions, preparation of public information (newsletters, websites, presentations), and coordination with elected officials. Projects included:Caltrain Downtown San Francisco Extension (EIS/EIR) Preliminary engineering and environmental planning study for extending regional rail service into a new terminal station in downtown San Francisco;San Francisco Airport Transit Connection Feasibility Study Planning and operations study for developing an airport rail system to Caltrain regional rail line;Caltrain Long-range Capital Improvement Program Long range planning and improvement plan for a high frequency regional rail service; andCaltrain Maintenance Facility Planning Study Preliminary engineering and environmental planning study to construct a new maintenance facility for the Caltrain regional rail system.
Director of CMP Santa Clara County CMA (1991 1995) Planning manager for Santa Clara County Congestion Management Program (CMP). Responsibilities included developing innovative land-use analysis, sub-regional planning, developing technical standards, computerized transportation demand model and capital improvement program.
Transportation Engineer/Planner (1984 1991) Completed a wide variety of transportation planning and engineering studies including public transport operation strategies, multimodal transport planning, parking analyses, transport impact analysis and software development.
Programmer Multisystems (1986) Assisted in development of a public transit management information system software application.
University Teaching and Administration (1982 1986) Taught introductory transportation planning lab course for undergraduate Civil Engineers at UC Berkeley. Assisted professors in developing course materials and class administration. Served as assistant to the Dean of Northeastern University Graduate College of Engineering responsible for all types of administrative and office operations.
Management Trainee Bethlehem Steel Corporation (1979 1982) Member of Bethlehem Steel Corporation s Loop Course management trainee program assigned to Engineering Department. Program provided experience in all facets of civil engineering for large projects in a large industrial plant including planning, engineering, construction, and project management.
