Software Applications Developer " Information Systems Department

Intern responsible for designing, developing and maintaining several different web and console applications, primarily to eliminate paperwork, improve employee efficiency and automate company processes. Position requires the use of various technologies and programming languages, such as: SQL Server, Active Directory, VB.net, C#, ASP.net, HTML, JavaScript, SQL Server Reporting Services, and SSIS Packages. Major achievements for this period have been:

Creation of a web search application that allows company employees and users to search for internal company information using a familiar search engine environment. The application has resulted in a 50% reduction in the average search time per employee, and an improvement in the quality of customer services both in stores and at the Corporate Offices. This tool is used on a daily basis by employees in order to search for stores, employees, and Pier 1 Products within the company. Created and updated reports using Microsoft Reporting Services for use in the company's Human Resources and Marketing departments, thereby eliminating the need for manual production of reports that was being performed using spreadsheets and manually input information. In addition to ensuring data consistency by using centralized information, it has reduced the time required to produce these items by 80%. Designed and developed a VB.net application to interface with Mercury Quality Center (MQC) in order to automate testing processes of Pier 1 products. This application consolidates information from various internal database sources and integrates this data into the MQC system, reducing manual entry by 90%, while ensuring data and testing process consistency among systems. Designed a C# application to automatically update the Mercury Quality Center user information from Microsoft Active Directory. This has resulted in a weekly savings of at least 40 person-hours, as the system needed to be updated manually prior to the new application. Designed a Facebook gift application for the Pier 1 Marketing department, to be used as a PR tool to draw new customers to stores.

The project was developed from inception using a Hybrid Waterfall model. UTA Graduate Student Management System (Summer 2009): Led a team of peers in the creation of a management system for the CSE department. The web application was built using C#, JavaScript, SQL Server and ASP.net and incorporated the following features: An authentication system, student account management, student progress tracking for advisors, and an alert system that notified advisors should a student fall behind schedule. Hall of Mirrors (Fall 2003 " Spring 2005): Assumed the duties of coder and team leader for a Max Payne 2 total conversion entitled Hall of Mirrors. Other duties included animating, media relations, project organization and the creation of a test bed environment. Gained experience in managing a team of people from differing cultures and maintaining interest in the project. Hall of Mirrors was the recipient of Mod Database's 'Editor's choice: Best Unreleased mod award in 2005 and is highly acclaimed by the community as a high profile, professionally-made modification.
