about mE As an artist, I love recreating the world around me by fusing art and technology. My goal is to keep creating
that sense of wonder through matte paintings on professional projects. I am drawn to adventure, whether
in film, games, literature, or traveling the world in search of dramatic images. Although most of my work
is digital, I am trained in traditional media. I also teach computer graphics and am Adobe Certified.
ExpErtisE Matte Painter
I have always had a fascination with matte painting and was accepted as a junior artist on the Digital
Matte team as soon as I joined Pixel Corps. Working under Alex Lindsay on digimatte projects in
a professional pipeline, I quickly sharpened my skills in photo-realistic painting, 3D environments,
hard surface textures, matchmoving, camera projections, background removal, and compositing.
Soon, I worked my way up to team leader and directed artists around the world, scheduling and
overseeing effects shots for trailers and short films. I especially enjoyed working on John Knoll's
Apollo 11 animation. My recent projects include matte paintings for Ana's Playground and an
independent zombie film. I've also been painting backgrounds for a potential new animated series.
Digital Illustrator and Designer
I excel in creating realistic, dramatic artwork. My subject matter has a wide range, from architectural
to technical to portraiture. Photoshop is my primary illustration tool, but I also create and implement
3D geometry. In addition to illustration for print, exhibits, and web, I have built and maintained HTML
websites and use Flash for animation and interactive content. My skills include photo editing, logo
design, web design, ad layout, proofreading, and multi-page document production. Currently, I am
a freelance artist.
Instructor
Sharing my experience is a love of mine and I began over ten years ago as an adjunct instructor
at Santa Rosa Junior College. Now I teach for various training centers, including New York-based
Netcom and the Bay Area Video Coalition in San Francisco. I have taught Photoshop imaging classes
for the Academy of Art University, and most recently at the College of Marin. I enjoy sharing my skills
in presentations to art classes and groups like the North Bay Adobe Users Group and I post illustration
tutorials based on my artwork on my blog. I also love writing and have written articles and tutorials
for digital art websites. One of my greatest accomplishments was researching, co-authoring, and
designing An LDS Guide to Mesoamerica, a book about exploring Mayan ruins.
