Professional Experience 1986-present

With over 20 years of IT experience, I have a broad skill set that encompasses virtually every aspect of local and wide-area networking, personal computer hardware and software, systems security, systems training, and personnel management. I am versed in network engineering, network administration, and help-desk/end-user support, having performed these roles in environments from 100 to over 100,000 users. I am experienced in using and supporting Citrix, VMWare, Cisco routing and switching equipment, blade servers, LAN diagnostic equipment, network cabling, Active Directory, and in performing software distribution. While I have limited Linux experience, I would like a position that affords me the opportunity to work with this operating system, as well.

As the sole local Information Technology staff for the 10 CBP offices on the islands of St Thomas and St John, I was responsible for network servers, WAN connectivity, mainframe access, data backup and recovery, and end-user desktop support. I provided support for 3 Novell 6.5 servers, to include verification of virus scanning software updates, directory services health, service patches, and disaster recovery. I supported 178 desktop and laptop computers at these 10 sites. Using Tivoli, I verified that all hardwired computers were patched to the approved versions and had current virus protection software and signature files installed. Laptops that were only occasionally connected to the network were checked once every 90 days to insure they met these same standards. I also maintained the Cisco routers and 3COM switches used throughout the 10 sites. I provided desktop/helpdesk support to approximately 200 users, for both commercial and in-house application software.

Responsible for the installation of blade server hardware, NetWare 6.5 servers, server upgrades, GroupWise 6.5 deployments, and software distribution via ZenWorks. I developed and documented security settings for the school systems LAN and WAN environment, and implemented Single Sign-On password security system to simplify and improve LAN security.
