I was brought in to take the LibQUAL+ project from a rough pilot to a worldwide effort to measure library service quality. The core of the project is an extensively researched web survey administered to library users. To date, some 500,000 people have completed the survey in six languages at 700 libraries. The majority of my work has involved creating administration and reporting tools that have turned a research project into a friendly but powerful turn-key solution for libraries.

Technologies used include fully object-oriented ColdFusion, advanced database structures and programming in MS SQL Server, SPSS, Crystal Reports, CSS, XML, ASP.NET, AJAX, and web services. I also did the graphic design work for the project.

My duties as Lead Developer encompassed meeting with clients to plan their online projects, creating technical specifications for their vision, planning and building the database systems they would use, managing a team of developers implementing my specifications, and programming many parts of the sites myself. I took $750,000-projects from idea, to paper, to successful launch. As part of a two-person team, I planned, created, and maintained the Georgetown University Law Center web site, with over 1000 static pages integrated with two dozen databases. Design projects included streamlined site navigation and page templates, RealAudio and RealVideo production and serving, ColdFusion-based interactive pages, and a site-wide search engine. The position required diverse skills and a typical day might have included planning a department's web site revision with faculty and staff, digitizing video for online delivery, planning and constructing a new database for the Web, analyzing web access logs, checking for and repairing possible security holes on the web servers, and designing a new logo for a division of the Law Center.Tinted Industries: Charlottesville, Virginia; Eugene, Oregon; Baltimore, MarylandIndependent Computer Consultant October 1996 - September 1999

My duties included maintaining all of the department's 45 networked computers and their diverse software packages; troubleshooting Macintosh, Windows 3.1, Windows 95, and Unix systems; planning and implementing hardware and software upgrades; researching new products and making purchasing decisions; teaching software training classes; creating databases and search engines to manage department data on the Web; building an intranet and local web server; creating an online database of several thousand images of old Charlottesville; and managing the activities of three part-time computer support personnel in the department.
