Master s thesis Advisor: Prof. Amitabha Mukerjee

Dimensionality reduction using Manifold Learning and its application in image processing.

A better manifold pursue algorithm.

Manifold clustering and applying it in object categorization.

Full title : NLDR.

Internship HewLett Packard, Bangalore (HP STSD)

Work

May 2009 July 2009 Advisor: Mr. Prashanth Rudrappa

Experience

Aim of the project was to provide solution for low response time even in busy hours for data-servers.

The tool we developed communicates with oracle database to nd the list of dependency metrics for

a particular feature prediction.

Find the best algorithm to use for the prediction from the list of algorithms available in weka.

Veri ed the output of our tool by successfully applying it in prediction of read/write response time.

Skills acquired: Weka, Hadoop, I also got the rst hand experience in working on large databases.

Summer school Instructor Computer Science Dept., IIT Kanpur

Teaching

I have taught Advance C++ in summer school organized by Computer Science Department IIT, Kanpur.

Experience

ACA Summerschool 2010

Teaching Assistant IIT, Kanpur

I am teaching assistant for the course Introduction to Cognitive Science taken by Amitabha Mukerjee.

Responsible for: Grading Quizes, Grading Class Presentations, Grading Projects, Maintaining course site

etc. I have also taken some classes. SE367-course page.

Scratch Removal from Videos Advisor: Sumana Gupta (Prof. EE Dept. IIT, Kanpur)

Major

We improved and generalized a recent algorithm for scratch detection.

Projects

Our proposed algorithm performs better than the existing algorithms in the two ways. It detects

most of the scratches in a lower computing time. Meanwhile, it also reduces the number of false

alarms in old videos and static frames.

The best part is, our whole method is automatic so it produces the video without any user interven-

tion.

Compiler for a subset of Objective-C Advisor: Prof. Sanjeev K. Aggarwal (CSE Dept.,IIT Kanpur)

It can parse and detect syntax and grammar error for almost complete Objective-C language.

The code it can actually compile and run is more near to C than Objective-C.

The compiler was written in C.

Human model animation in opengl Advisor: Prof. Shashank K. Mehta (CSE Dept.,IIT Kanpur)

We developed a C application using opengl library. The application can animate most of the human joints

with normal constraints, so we can model simple movements e.g. running, walking, jumping, shaking hands

etc. More at human animation .

Peer to peer le sharing Advisor: Prof. Harish Karnick (CSE Dept.,IIT Kanpur)

A variant of Bit torrent using UDP and no central tracking/monitoring server.

We ensured reliable le transfer over UDP.

We also implemented congestion control, prioritized downloading of rare chunks, and use of history

to choose peers as the transfer progresses.

The application is developed in java. More at Bit -torrent.

Extension of Nachos(using C++) Advisor: Prof Sumit Ganguly (CSE Dept., IIT Kanpur)

Project is done as a part of Operating Systems course curriculum.

We have added features like various system calls, process scheduling, virtual memory management,

paging, threading etc.

More at Nachos.

ICDM 2008 Data Mining Contest Advisor: Prof. Professor H. Karnick (CSE Dept., IIT Kanpur)

Presented a system using Machine Learning Techniques for verifying whether the Comprehensive Nuclear

Test (CTBT) is met or not.

Our method involves preprocessing step to balance the data.

We studied various machine learning methods and preprocessing techniques to come up with best

possible for our dataset.

Compared various other preprocessing and classi cation methods to show that our set of algorithm

and preprocessing is most e ective.

Criminal Search

Course project for Data Base Management Systems.

Created a php mysql based application for maintaining criminal records.

A utility that can be used to store, organize and search general information (name, nationality,

gender, age etc) and personal images. Administrator has privilege to add/update entries.

More at Criminal Search.

Searle s Chinese Room Argument Advisor: Prof. A. V. R. S. Sarma (IIT Kanpur)

I attempt to give some new thoughts against the famous argument and try to prove it wrong.

Distinguishing between weak and strong AI.

Understanding syntax and semantics.

Disproving Searle Chinese Room Argument or Proving that Strong AI exists.

More at CRA.
