ing which time he has had final responsibility for finances, operations, sales, and liaison with

Boards of Directors. Gottfried s initial company was sold to a competitor, his second had a public

offering, and his current company is a leading vendor of public safety, financial, risk and com-

pliance software and services. Before his business career, Gottfried had a distinguished academic

career, during which time he received tenure at age 29, published four books, one of which was a

Book-of-the Month Club book now in its 19th printing, won four distinguished teaching awards,

and was a member of the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, NJ. Dr. Gottfried currently

serves on both academic and public sector boards of trustees, is a volunteer in several local chari-

ties and organizations, and serves an expert witness in technology disputes.

Gottfried is the President & CEO of a leading public safety, financial and audit software compa-

nies, with clients throughout North America, Europe, and Asia. Cross Current designs, develops,

and supports 911 systems, records management systems, victims witness case management soft-

ware, and justice hubs, and is the only developer of sentencing guidelines systems in the United

States. In financial and accounting services, Cross Current builds consumer loan and mortgage

systems, provides the full range of bank IT security services, and provides internal audit, risk and

compliance software to government and commercial clients. Cross Current was picked by Drexel

University as the best place to work in Greater Philadelphia.

P&W Technologies, Chalfont, PA, 1992-1994

Gottfried was President and CEO of P&W Technologies, which developed and sold real time

mirroring and backup software for Microsoft Windows and UNIX platforms. P&W was one of

the first firms to which Microsoft provided source code for its Windows NT operating system,

and its flagship Octopus software is still considered a leading product in its field. The company

was sold to Qualix Corporation, had a public offering, was then sold to Legato, and is now part of

EMC.

SDA Associates, Clinton New Jersey, 1989-1992

Gottfried was the founder, President and CEO of SDA, which developed and deployed data vault-

ing software for the financial industry, including Goldman Sachs, Merrill Lynch, CS First Boston,

and Salomon Brothers. The software was developed on both Stratus VOS and UNIX operating

systems, and was sold to Stratus.

Regal Data Systems, Bound Brook, NJ, 1988-1989

Gottfried was Operations Head for a consulting firm that serviced Fortune 100 companies on the

East Coast, along with AT&T and Bellcore. His role was to both increase sales and to ensure the

integrity of the operations, including the development of UNIX and VOS software systems. Dur-

ing his year at Regal, the company grew its revenue by 39%, and was later sold to a larger con-

sulting company.

Academic Career

Gottfried taught at the University of Michigan and Rutgers University, and was a full, tenured

professor of history and Director of Medieval Studies when he left academic life in 1989. During

a distinguished career, in which he specialized in medieval European economic and social histo-

ry, Gottfried wrote four books, won four distinguished teaching citations, taught thousands of

undergraduate and graduate students, wrote over 30 scholarly articles, gave over 50 papers at uni-

versities including Oxford, Cambridge, London, Toronto, Princeton, Pennsylvania, Columbia,

Wisconsin, and Michigan, among other places, was a member of the Institute for Advanced Study

in Princeton, and won several academic awards, including a Fulbright Fellowship, a Queen s Fel-

lowship, a National Endowment of the Humanities Fellowship, a Horace A, Rackham Fellowship,

and a fellowship from the American Philosophical Society, among others.
