JOB HISTORY

7/01 to present: A wide variety of informal, short-term writing and editing assignments and plenty of writing, teaching and editing by way of 228 articles written for OpEdNews.com, which articles you may peruse by Googling these three search words: OpEdNews Richard Clark

In 2001, I inherited a considerable amount of money, which I gradually exhausted as a world traveler and through some bad investments. Now I need to go back to work.

1/01 to 7/01 Tech writer at Cierra Photonics in Santa Rosa, CA. Rewrote their quality policy manual. Wrote assembly and manufacturing procedures and edited a variety of ISO-related documents. Cierra (now defunct) designed & manufactured wavelength discrimination components for the fiber optic and telecommunications industry. Rate: $55/hr.

3/00 to 9/00 Tech writer at Sanmina Precision Assembly in Fremont, CA. Using video and digital camera, CorelDraw and Photoshop, I put together illustrated manuals that describe how to assemble complex machines used in the chip-making industry. For part of this time I was simultaneously employed at Applied Materials, in Santa Clara, as an ISO 9000 auditor and tech writer. Rate: $55/hr.

4/99 to 9/99 Tech writer at Berlex Biosciences in Richmond, CA. In conformance with GMP standards, I wrote preventive maintenance documents and standard operating procedures for equipment such as autoclaves, cranes, chillers, boilers, distillers, uninterruptable power supply systems, water softeners, and X-ray film processors.

7/98 to 1/99 Tech writer at Alza Corporation in Palo Alto. In conformance with GMP standards, I wrote preventive maintenance and calibration SOPs for a wide variety of equipment used in the production of such things as time-release capsules and the Nicoderm Patch

10/97 to 5/98 In October of '97, I was called back to LJL Biosystems in Sunnyvale to write one more assembly manual, technical illustrations and digital photos included, for another of their newly designed biomedical machines. I videotaped the assembly procedures, asking questions and taking notes along the way. From the videotape, I wrote the manual. Used a program called Snappy to take digital images from the videotape, for use in the manual.

During this same period, 10/97 to 5/98, I edited documents of policy and procedure for Bechtel Engineering Corporation in San Francisco. One of the documents was a

70-page description of how to set up a Bechtel mining site, how to conduct all operations, and how to eventually decommission the site.

9/95 to 9/97 Editor and internal auditor at Seagate Technology Recording Media Group in Fremont, CA. In connection with ISO 9000 certification, I regularly audited various Seagate departments and did a major rewrite of their quality policy manual, integrating preliminary versions of this manual from several Seagate facilities, into one document that served all facilities. Also created various Power Point presentations.

For 7 months previous to this, I worked as a technical writer and editor at Lam Research, also in Fremont. Here I edited the research and engineering reports of the Poly Etch Business Unit. Also wrote some marketing literature for the million-dollar wafer etchers that are Lam's principal product.

Also did extensive research, writing and editing for a large report having to do with worldwide computerized numerical controller (CNC) markets, trends, issues, products and companies. This was for a high-tech market research publishing company in Mountain View, California, Frost & Sullivan.
