Organized and implemented a project to offer representation to parents in
child dependency cases. Administrative responsibility for the daily functioning
of the unit, for long-term planning and policy development, for funding and for
liaison with the courts, the public child welfare agency and child advocacy
organizations. Directed training on state and federal practice in the child
welfare area and monitored ongoing representation.
Participated in task forces of public officials, advocates, service providers
and citizens concerned about foster care and other child welfare issues,
commented upon proposed regulations and worked with groups of parents
who experienced problems with the foster care system.
Maintained a case load individual cases and impact litigation seeking reform
in child welfare policies and practices.
After leaving the staff, worked as a part-time consultant concerning class
action litigation seeking reunification services for families whose children
were in foster care.
