Brought in to assist in recovering a catastrophic migration to a new constituent
management database system (the Raiser's Edge). Continued to support office
operations. Developed numerous customized MS Word and MS Excel documents
that "built themselves" using Visual Basic scripts that accessed
the internal database. Redesigned gift coding system to improve compatibility
between the constituent/gift database and the Finance Department's accounting
software. Automated operations, sometimes reducing 3-day tasks to 40 minutes.
Created online video training for the most complicated processes to augment
existing site documentation. Improved general efficiency enough to reduce
head count.
Merck & Co., Inc.
Managed a team in the migration of the entire Merck Research Labs
division, consisting of over 5000 people between three sites in New Jersey
& Pennsylvania. Interviewed, hired and coordinated a team of eleven people.
Developed and documented procedures for the migration of e-mail systems
(MS Mail, Quickmail and UNIX mail) to MS Exchange and of scheduling software
(Meeting Maker) to Schedule+. Developed custom Python application to build
a customer database from eight disparate
databases for tracking, planning, and coordination all personnel in all departments.
(The database was later used by the desktop/NT deployment group for their
planning purposes.)
Later returned to Merck's Research Labs to establish a Data Warehouse
tying together information from Personnal and IT departments. Designed web
applications that facilitated in software rollouts, Y2K resolutions and network
topology planning. The results of this project led to the foundation of the
Pilot Technologies Group.
Researched, planned and implemented departmental PC
migrations from Windows 3.1 to Windows 95/NT, and from Novell to NT
client configurations. Supervised team of Network Engineers. Tracked
hardware assets and documented all processes.
Developed prototype for the
ACAS software application, planned a
schedule of development revisions and supervised a programmer during
the development. Mediated between programmer and project manager to
establish common goals and development strategy. Promoted
application and development at two conferences.
