Technology Development/Broadcast Products Group

Sun participated in the NIST Advanced Technology Program (ATP) to develop the high risk, barrier breaking technologies required for the wide scale adoption of High Definition Television (HDTV) by the television industry.

Engineering Lead for the television studio project, a NIST funded collaborative effort of 8 companies responsible for the development of new HDTV technologies.

Co-author of the Digital Studio Command and Control (DS-CC)™ specification defining a CORBA based, object oriented, network distributed protocol for the control of all television studio operations, devices, and services.

System architect, creative lead, and UI engineer for the ATP (PTACW), a playout scheduling and control application that orchestrated all activities of a DS-CC compliant system. An implementation of the DS-CC controlled studio, including the PTACW was successfully demonstrated at the 1998 NAB convention and was key in gaining acceptance of DS-CC into the SMPTE standards process.

Representative to the SMPTE/EBU task force for harmonization of digital technologies, and the SMPTE P18.10 Working Group on Digital Control.
