PROFESSIONAL
EXPERIENCE:
Language and Composition Instructor, Illinois State
University, Normal, IL (1995-97). Have taught three semesters
of Freshman Composition thus far, and will teach one more in
the spring of '97. Designed assignments, readings, and class
activities in a carefully sequenced fashion in order to help
foster students' development as writers of nonfiction prose within
various academic and public communities. Among the of English 101 is
the developing of strategies for generating, organizing, and
revising texts. Utilizing a recursive writing method, students
completed a 20 to 30 page portfolio of 4 to 6 essays.
Features Writer, Daily Vidette, Illinois State
University, Normal, IL (Summer 1996). Wrote numerous for summer edition
of university newspaper.
Sports Editor, Marshall Chronicle, Marshall,
MI (1992-95). Covered local high school and college sports, minor
league hockey, and wrote weekly features and column for 5,000,
six-day per week paper. Won Honorable Mention for in 1994 Michigan Press Association
contest. Had four feature
stories picked up by the Associated Press, appearing in various
state newspapers, including The Detroit News . Skilled

and dark room techniques. Computer knowledge includes pagination
skills, Quark X-Press, PageMaker, and World Wide Web page construction
and navigation.

Creek, MI (1994-95). Covered two to three per week for large daily

Covered high school and college basketball games for local daily

United States Navy, USS Inchon, (LPH-12), Norfolk,
VA (1982-86). Served aboard a helicopter carrier as an aviation
boatswain's mate in the U.S.
Navy, attaining rank of Petty Officer 3rd Class. Completed
two Mediterranean cruises, including service in Beirut, Lebanon.
Congressional Intern, Congressman Howard Wolpe's Office,
Lansing, MI (Summer 1989). Handled caseload and worked directly
with district constituents.
