CAREER SUMMARY

I spent 25 years as a public relations practitioner, working in corporate and

national consulting roles before founding my own company, M Power, which I

ran for 10 years. As well as being a serial part time student, I also worked for

more than 20 years as a sessional teacher/lecturer at most of Melbourne s

universities and TAFE institutes alongside my full time public relations work.

A few years ago, I reversed my full time public relations/part time education

career and gradually focused exclusively on education because I enjoyed it

more. My whole life has been about teaching and learning it just took me a

while to frame it in that way. Naturally I bring my public relations skills and

experience to my roles in education and combined with my natural affinity with

innovation, change and entrepreneurial thinking, should there be such a thing as

a conventional educator, then I am not it.

I have a combination of VET and university qualifications, from certificate to

master degree, in journalism, communication, management, public relations and

education and am currently doing a Master of Education as well as a PhD

(looking at the differences in teaching in the higher education and VET sectors).

I currently combine lecturing in strategic communication at La Trobe University

with a portfolio of other roles, including writing, speaking, mentoring and

consulting.
