Forestry Technician (Assistant Fire Engine Operator)

As acting Engineer on engine 30 received the Foresters Honor Award for the work done in Colorado on the Waldo Fire. Retrieved a model 326 engine from Boise Idaho, completely fabricated from the ground up all compartments from scratch, including hose, chainsaw, and safety compartments. Acted as Engine boss on a detail on a type 6 engine in New Mexico for 3 months, responsibilities including physical fitness, training, tactical, perdeim and times.

Completing all responsibilties in 2009 in the absence of an Engineer, I was acting Engineer on Engine 32. Crewboss on a type 2 crew on the Howland fire. Heading medical training for temps on a weekly basis as a qualified EMT. Burn boss on prescribed fire operations, fully proficient in all aspects in usage and performing daily and weekly inspections on SCBA tanks, fire shelters, Mark 3 pumps and engine pumps.

The year crew 3 was established I became senior firefighter, and as a lead sawyer and saw boss I was in charge of all saw maintenance, orders, fuel mix, fire replacement items and project replacement items, but more importantly the crews knowledge of safe practices. Thus including daily log, individual fire folders, crew records, tailgate briefings, along with putting on and participating in crews critical 24 training. In 2005 I was acting squad boss I supervised hand crew as working leader, I instruct crew members in specific tasks and techniques for on the job training. As a supervisor I make work assignments, schedules and provide instructions for daily work assignments. I monitor work in progress and ensure equipment and materials are available. As a saw boss I was deemed saw coordinator and put on S-212 for the entire district to be sure all safety issues were being addressed. In 2006 I received certificate of merit for my part in establishing the Feather River Hot Shot status. I was lead EMT, coordinated helicopter drops, and was involved with DFPZ program, all with a perfect safety record.

During this time I was introduced to model 62 engine. We performed progressive and simple hose lays, mobile attack, fire suppression tactics, along with donning and doffing a self contained breathing apparatuses, and vehicle and dumpster fire training. At this time I was giving S-131 advanced firefighter and my squad boss tack book, became proficient in hand held and mobile radio functions and programmable capabilities. After taking S-211 portable pumps I was thoroughly trained on all functions and apparatuses on engine 32. We performed structural protection numerous times. On engine 32 my main duties was cutting lines. I was extremely versatile and filled in where ever the district needed me.

On crew 5 my position was second swamper on the saw team. I was introduced to all agency regulations and procedures to vehicle maintenance PT logs, and individual fire folders. Prior to my firefighting career, I was the foreman for a logging outfit. I can perform all phases of logging operations.I worked with the surveyor using a topographical map and GPS, RPF(registered professional foresters), flagging property boundaries and wlpz(water lake protection zones). And of course CDF and I discussed all issues of my timber harvest plan throughout each job. Part of every timber plan is the construction and maintenance of the roads needed. I maintained all equipment and saws. Thus, all parts, fuel, oil, cable, hydraulic hoses was my responsibility. Each purchase and all receipts had to be kept and dropped by the office each week. I scheduled how many trucks we needed each day and kept track of all employees hours. we would dispose of all brush with lop and scatter or prescribed burning. I also maintained the first aid kit and Fire Box with the proper emergency equipment. I headed weekly saftey meetings, teaching safety measures necessary in the woods. We also did cleaning and replanting. I was trained in the application of herbacide for reforestation. As the foreman I headed the four man crew. I also have experience driving a 4500 gal. P-300 Mack Water Truck with a hi/low

transmission and a split shift 10 ton dump truck.
