Onsite Support: Main role as a field engineer is to support customers'

purchase of Xylan network hardware equipment in a post

sales capacity. Designed and built network rchitectures

to implement Xylan technology.

Campus Connectivity: Built ATM and Fast Ethernet backbones to accommodate

Xylan's VLAN architecture. ATM design has redominately

been PNNI core with ethernet end station attachment via

LANE. ATM connectivity has also been configured with

RFC 1483 bridging and Xylan proprietary protocols.

Fast Ethernet and Gigabit Ethernet backbones have been

built with 802.1Q and proprietary protocols to trunk

VLANs. VLANs designed to accommodate IP, IPX,

AppleTalk, and XNS. Layer 3 routing performed with RIP

and OSPF.

WAN Connectivity: Worked on a contract to install an 18,000 remote site

network. Remote sites consist of Cisco 2500 series

routers connected to Cisco 7500 routers in regional hub

centers.

Network Management: Use HP Openview to monitor installation of WAN. Wrote

scripts in PERL to automate configuration changes on

remote site routers via SNMP. Used Seagate NerveCenter

correlation software, writing tools to facilitate

monitoring large network.

Training: Taught classes on TCP/IP, network design, introduction

to Cisco routers, and introduction to HP Openview for

onsite contractors and customer employees. Developed

self-study course and instructor training material for

customer.

FDDI/Ethernet TCP/IP network. Make twisted pair and

fiber optic cables for new nodes on networks. Link to

remote sites via T1 PPP lines. Connect campus site with

Pair Gain HDSL T1 modems.

Network Management: Implement HP Openview and 3Com Transcend software to

manage network nodes and network hardware for network

load balancing. Use Lanplex layer 3 switches to design

a TCP/IP local area network consisting of up to 24 class

C IP network domains.

WWW Webmaster: Design HTTP web pages and maintain website for

www.nasni.navy.mil. Pages hand scripted with a text

editor and graphics work done with Adobe Photoshop.
