WORK EXPERIENCE

National Railroad Passenger Corporation (Amtrak), Washington, D.C./Richmond, VA

Assistant Conductor, Conductor February 2004-August 2012

Assist with or conduct safe train handling procedures in accordance with host railroad rules of the particular route being traveled. While working as Conductor, supervise a crew of up to twelve employees and be responsible for the safety of all employees and passengers on board the train.

Provide customer service to passengers, such as information pertaining to their trip, as well as assist with carry-on luggage, assist disabled passengers, provide service recovery to compensate for failures on the part of the company, intervene in disputes between passengers in order to maintain a safe and pleasant environment for all passengers, and be able to perform basic lifesaving techniques and first aid.

Collect revenue on board Amtrak and MARC commuter trains. This included the collection of tickets issued by stations as well as the selling of tickets to unticketed passengers as required.

Troubleshoot or assist engineer with mechanical problems in certain types of train equipment. Be able to manipulate the consist of the train when necessary.

Coordinate train operations with security forces such as the U.S. Secret Service, Department of Homeland Security and Amtrak police when transporting high profile passengers (U.S. government officials, foreign officials, celebrities, etc.).

Aside from my normal duties, I traveled to Wilmington, DE, to participate in the development of a new test to be used nationwide by the human resources department for assistant conductor applicant screening. I also participated in the production of instructional material dealing with Amtrak Acela high speed train set equipment, and took part in National Train Day, during which the general public is invited to get a better understanding of Amtrak`s rolling stock and services.
