WORK EXPERIENCE
Associate Vice President for Student Affairs, University of South Carolina,
May 1985-Present
Responsible for leadership and management of the Department of Student Life and the Student Affairs
Development Department. Supervise eighty-five full-time staff and a 15 million dollar annual budget.
Program areas include: Blatt Physical Education Center, Carolina Productions Program Board, Carolina Chaplain s
Association, Clubs and Organizations, Community Service, Fitness Programs, Greek Housing/Village, Greek Life,
Intramural/ Recreational Sports, Leadership Programs, Multicultural Student Affairs, Off-Campus Student Services,
Parents Programs, Russell House University Union and campus facility reservations, Sport Clubs, Student
Government, Strom Thurmond Wellness and Fitness Center, Student Affairs Annual Fund and Major Gift Campaign,
Student Media, Student Athletic Ticket Management, Substance Abuse and Prevention Education, and Women
Student's Services.
Serve as University coordinator for development of student activity facilities. Directed over 120 million dollars in greek
house, recreational buildings and field spaces, and student union construction and renovation. Included work
developing project concept, marketing, design, funding, coordination with local zoning and municipal authorities, land
procurement and tenant relations, and construction management.
Coordinate University response to critical incidents and serve as University spokesperson when designated. Manage
campus solicitation policy, and University-wide special events. Handle all major requests for use of University
facilities by off-campus parties.
Maintain appropriate relationships with community groups, local city officials, University alumni, parents of current
students, faculty and other external constituencies to ensure open communication and support for a positive student
learning environment while attending the University and living in the Columbia area.
Function as a student advocate in institutional governance. Advise the undergraduate and graduate student
governments.
Serve as secretary to the Board of Student Publications and Communications, secretary to the University Honors and
Awards Committee, chair of the Extenuating Circumstances Withdrawal Appeals Committee, chair of Staff
Enrichment/Development Committee, convener of Religious Affairs Committee, member of the MLK Day Recognition
Committee, and member of University Legal Residency Committee. Chaired Family Fund Campaign in 2008.
Develop and monitor all policies and procedures impacting the quality of campus environment for students.
Assume responsibilities of the Vice President for Student Affairs and Academic Support in his absence.

Served as one of seven departmental chairpersons for the Division of Student Affairs. Supervised seven professional
staff persons, eleven graduate assistants, eight clerical and support staff persons, and more than 250 student
employees. Responsible for the fiscal and operational management of Student Media, Campus Activities Center,
Intramural/Recreational Sports, Sport Clubs, Greek Life, Clubs and Organizations, and Bell Camp Recreational
Facility. Developed and implemented all policies, procedures, and programs impacting student organizations and
student activities.
Assistant Dean of Students, University of South Carolina, August 1982-July 1983
Served as assistant to the senior student affairs administrator regarding all areas of finance, personnel and policy for
the seven departments of the Division of Student Affairs. Conducted all division budget responsibilities. Compiled,
edited and produced student handbooks, University telephone directory, division brochures, and various other
publications. Advised Student Government. Coordinated University Honors and Awards Day. Served as member of
Honors and Awards Commission. Assumed responsibilities of the dean in her absence.
Associate Director of Student Activities/Manager of Student Media, University of South Carolina, July 1980-July 1982
Advised tri-weekly student newspaper, student yearbook, literary magazine, and student radio station. Supervised all
personnel and financial affairs of the Student Media operation including advertising, production and bookkeeping.
Served as secretary to the Board of Student Publications and Communications. Produced University telephone
directory at a profit. Acted in absence of director of student activities and coordinated department-wide projects.
