Violin Making Experience
2004 -- present
Currently I work full time as a violin maker and repairer in Singapore. I work for the violin shop of Szabo
Istvan. I do repairs, restorations, new instrument making, sound adjustment, bow rehairs and other
miscellaneous works on instruments and bows.
2000 2003
Studied at Chicago School of Violin Making, Illinois, USA. Graduated in December 2003.
Completed five violins, two violas and one cello. Participated in repair seminar for two semesters, where as a
class, we did plaster casts, soundpost patches, crack gluing and cleating, peghole bushing, neck graft, neck
reset, edge replacement, edge doubling, gluing a cleat on a cello rib without removing the top.
2003 summer vacation
Worked in the violin shop of Peter Seman, Skokie, IL.
2000 summer vacation and 2001 January to July

Self employed music tutor. (Part time from 1992 to 1997.)
Duties included recruiting new students, planning a curriculum, finding course material, and preparing
students for examinations, besides teaching.
1997 August November
Accounts cum admin assistant (temporary, part time), Grace Assembly of God. Had an overview of how an
accounting system functions within an organization. My duties included bookkeeping, helping to prepare the
budget, and keeping track of fixed assets.
1996 January June
Software engineer (on industrial attachment), Institute of Systems Science. Work involved experimental
programming for KidSpace, a multimedia interactive network game. I learned and applied software
engineering principles in a team environment, in particular, designing software and writing programs in a
collaborative manner. We used the object oriented Java programming language. We conducted product
demonstrations and represented our company at a trade convention.
Interests and other activities
Member of National University of Singapore (NUS) Symphony Orchestra as a student from 1993 to 1997, and
as alumni member thereafter. I play violin and viola. The orchestra gives regular performances both in and out
of campus. The 2004 season included a tour of Bangkok, Thailand, performing The Merry Widow opera in
collaboration with Singapore Lyric Opera, and participation in Singapore Idol.
Chuch musician (piano, electronic keyboard, band leader) from 1988 to the present.
Other skills
Good understanding of computer hardware, software and networking. I have experience building a PC from
parts, installing operating system, application and networking software (both commercial and open source
varieties), and connecting computers into a network.
Piano tuning. I taught myself how to tune a piano from books and information that is available from the
Internet.
Advanced bicycle maintenance (including wheel building) and basic car maintenance.
