Professional Experience
DataSync Technologies, Inc
.
Assisted in the design and implementation of a client/server-based Illustrations
package for use by approximately 40,000 insurance agents. This system is
composed of business objects developed in C++ to support actuarial calculations
and insurance product rules. These objects are wrapped into a COM/ATL automation
layer and then `driven' by a Visual Basic front end. These components need to be
portable and run on a variety of platforms including Windows `95, Windows NT,
and AIX. The business objects must also integrate into a legacy CICS/MVS
mainframe system. It is through the use of component software technologies
supported by these platforms that the Customer intends to reuse these components
in a broader business reengineering effort.
Primary responsibilities included working as Senior Developer with System
Architect and Lead Analyst team members in the design, development and
validation of the C++ business objects. Business objects performed allI/O using
I/O streams and exception processing was fully integrated into the object model
for error handling. Also assisted junior developers in their development and
debugging tasks; designed an automated regression testing mechanism for the
business objects; designed and implemented various maintenance programs;
assisted in debugging and optimization of Visual Basic and COM/ATL layers.
Capstone Engineering, Inc
.
Developed a notebook-based, pen-enabled inspection system used by State of
Michigan housing inspectors to collect and upload inspection results to the home
office server for analysis and report generation. This application included a
Visual Basic data collection front end, and utilized Microsoft NT Server for
collecting and processing inspections transferred from individual inspectors in
the field. An intelligent serial communications application co-developed by Mr.
Solomon was used to manage and synchronize the communication from the field to
the home office. The system also included a `Data Driven' architectureto allow
the inspection administrator to modify and add inspection items at thehome
office. Upon downloading of these new inspection items to the collection
devices, the inspection application automatically generated and rendered new
screens based on the changes. The process utilized a variety of customVBX
controls that were developed by Mr. Solomon using Microsoft FoundationClasses.
Software Services Corp.
Assisted as a team member in the development of a fully integrated Baggage
Handling System for a major airline carrier. The system is able to induct,
track, and deliver baggage from curbside to gate for outbound flights;for
inbound flights, from gate to claim area. This system is currently in operation
at the major airports in Atlanta, Cincinnati, and Portland. Specifically, Mr.
Solomon designed a Motif/C++ subsystem for integrating a third party graphics
package to serve as the Graphical User Interface for the Supervisor Terminal.
Also assisted in testing other parts of the control system and communication
processes.
Computational Biosciences, Inc
.
Designed and developed a high performance Protein and DNA sequence analysis
system, based on a parallel SIMD computer. Investigated the application of
Neural Networks to specific genomic sequence analysis problems. Also developed
an OpenLook-compliant GUI for the Company's DNA and Protein Sequence analysis
application and developed support classes in C++. Also performed system and
network administration duties.
Geospectra Corp.
Implemented corporate-wide, PC-based payroll system. Designed and developed
software system for automated extraction and characterization of features from
digital imagery. Designed disk storage management utility to facilitate image
data archival and restoration. Developed graphics application facilitating
vector/raster image overly and display. Co-developed a real-time inspection
system for evaluating highway conditions using video cameras operated at highway
speeds. Co-managed systems and network administration.
Cosi Inc
.
Implemented various accounting systems including inventory control, accounts
receivable/payable, and an order entry system for a major bedding manufacturer.
