Objective

To work on and with open source projects, especially in the area of

streaming media and Internet multimedia standards.

Active Projects

Icecast -- http://www.icecast.org

Icecast is an open source streaming media server. I founded the project in

December of 1998, and have continued enhancing and working on Icecast up to

the present. Currently we are adding Vorbis support to Icecast 2.0 which

features an improved architecture focused on modularity. Icecast has been

used extensively by companies and individuals to broadcast audio on the

Internet.

Ogg, Vorbis, and Tarkin -- http://www.vorbis.com

Ogg and its related projects, including Vorbis and Tarkin are the foundations

for interoperable multimedia. Ogg provides the basic bitstream and framing

functionality, and Vorbis and Tarkin provide audio and video codecs. Vorbis

is currently being used by many major companies, ships on my different

platforms, and even runs in handheld devices. I also work with the base tools

for Vorbis, including player plugins, commandline tools, and Windows GUI tools.

I am also responsible for bug management and all release engineering.

The Xiph.org Foundation is a non-profit technology and research organization

focused on interoperable and patent-free multimedia technologies and standards.

I am in charge of the day to day operations, fundraising, and evangelism. My

work at the Foundation includes my work on Icecast and the Ogg project. I also

serve on the Foundation's board of directors.

applications and services. I serve as president and I am also the primary

consultant. Recent projects have included online music collaboration with

the J2EE platform, business plan analysis, and research of new technologies

and ideas.

iCast was CMGI's online entertainment venture. At iCast, I was responsible

for leading the research and development team, and designing much of the

architecture for the radio portions of the site, which included 500 streaming

channels of Internet radio in MP3 format using Icecast and the backend

management system. I also designed and built a CD encoding farm capable

of ripping and encoding over 1000 CDs per day.

Green Witch Internet Radio

I was the 4th employee of Green Witch, and helped move the company from the

RealAudio based streaming onto Icecast. At the same time, I extended Icecast

to meet the needs of the company. I was responsible for much of the

architecture that allowed us to provide custom Internet radio stations to

clients, which included labels and other businesses. I was also very

involved with the shopping and selling of the company, which was acquired in

January of 2000 by CMGI and merged into iCast.

My major was Computer Engineering with a minor in Math, and I took classes in

various programming languages, operating systems, artificial intelligence,

scholarship offered at SMU. It is only awarded to 20 students each year.
