Database Administrator
Project-1 - Worked on Replication issues between two Oracle databases of
Local Service management System (LSMS) running on two HP Unix servers. Setup
Oracle Enterprise Manager/Replication manager to monitor and maintain
advanced replication features of Oracle server.
Project-2 - Working on Oracle Sales Compensation system (OSC) a module of
Oracle Financials project at the inception stage. Closely working with Oracle
Technical architecture definition committee to prepare documents as set by
AIM (Application Implementation Methodology) of Oracle.
9/97
to NewZealand Police
11/97
Wellington, New Zealand
Database Administrator
Project - Creation of new Oracle database and installing Peoplesoft
databases (HR application) within the Oracle database for development, and
test environments. Creation of pre-production Oracle/Peoplesoft database. Set
up required users, roles and grant required privileges for People tools
administration. Created required table spaces and other database objects
following Peoplesoft installation procedures. Involved sizing the table
storage parameters for better space management. Created automation scripts
to start/stop Peoplesoft Process Scheduler and cascade with database
startup/shutdown scripts. Created scripts to start/stop database, SQLnet
listener, regular database monitoring, periodic database full export/import,
etc. Created scripts to completely automate the job of shutting down the
database, backup to tape and startup the database using CRON, and tested on
Sun Solaris platform. Worked on Peoplesoft/Oracle user password
encrypt/decrypt issues, NT-fileserver catering Peoplesoft software, setup SQL
net configuration files for client/server communication. Developed, tested,
implemented, and documented disaster recovery plan. In a nutshell, did
everything that was required to run Peoplesoft HR module on Unix/Oracle 7.3.2
environment.
9/96
to Public Trust
8/97
Wellington, New Zealand
Database Administrator
Project 1 - Database Administration on Preproduction Database for OLAS
Accounts Payable Financial Management System
(3/97 - Present):
Involved sizing the database objects in coordination with Application
Administrator. Creation of new database with required tablespaces/roll back
segments and creation of schema objects for OLAS software. Identified
replication needs and set up replication between two production databases for
data exchange. Created SQL scripts and shell scripts to automate housekeeping
activities on different tables by submitting jobs to CRON. Created database
monitoring scripts to check the data segments growth and freespace on table
space for advance action. Developed disaster recovery plans, and documented
procedures for handling replication set up at the time of database recovery.
Included new instances into Oracle name server for network access by
redefining the network definition using Oracle Network Manager.
Project 2 - Database Development, Production Database Administration,
Replication, Oracle Name Server Installation and SQL*NET Administration
(
9/96
- 2/97
):
Studied user requirements and OLAS-Oracle interface issues. Designed, sized
and developed physical database, and initialization parameters were set after
finalizing the issues with character set, version related problems on
implication methods, etc. Generated SQL code and database triggers as
required by the application using coding standards. Designed and implemented
replication scenarios to send data across different instances. Designed and
created scripts to create standard roles and grant privileges to the roles
to ensure security.
Worked on Oracle Enterprise Manager V1.2.2, and worked on GUI tools such as
Database Manager, SQL Worksheet, Deamon Manager, Table Space Manager, etc.
to develop and maintain Oracle databases. Worked with performance pack tools
like Performance Manager and Oracle Expert to tune the database for the first
time and periodic intervals. Intelligent agents have been set on different
nodes to monitor events, and schedule administration jobs, linking the alerts
raised by the nodes with e-Mail and pagers. Created SNMP configuration files,
and distributing them to the appropriate locations for error free network
connections. Created corporate level network definition for remote clients
to logon to the Oracle instances, using SQL*NET and Oracle Names for
centralized name resolution. Installed Oracle Name Servers on different nodes
to ease name resolution for client connection using SQL*NET and improve
performance/availability. Developed backup strategy and developed plan for
disaster recovery. Developed PL/SQL and shell scripts to monitor the health
of the database, to monitor growth statistics, and to fix the problems
related with table space fragmentation, coalescing freespace on table spaces,
etc. Created scripts to extract table definitions and Index definitions for
user schema and develop create scripts to recreate the data and index
segments, and import the data back after resizing the segments to improve the
performance. Created scripts to analyze the schemas, collect statistics, take
periodic logical backups and check for block corruptions. Used Oracle Expert
to check the issues relating to the performance and tune the database by
implementing the recommendations on the database. Documented all the
operational procedures, and emergency procedures for quick recovery and
minimal data loss in the event of disaster using information mapping
techniques.
3/96 to IBM (NZ) Limited
6/96 Wellington, New Zealand
Developed SQL code to ensure relational integrity through the front end
software developed using PowerBuilder. Developed applications to periodically
populate data from legacy system into database using database administration
tools. Involved evaluation, customization and study on implementation of
PowerHelp V2.2. Studied the suitability, performed Gap analysis, worked on
entity relations and relational integrity, suggested implementation schemas,
worked on software and hardware installation schemas for multi-user
environment, set up client stations, analysis of interfaces, database
administration, and development of applications for data transfer from DB2
database.
3/95
to Employee
Cooperative Stores
11/95
IndiaProject Leader/Database Administrator
Involved sizing of database, creation of table spaces, and controlling user
access with schema partitioning, etc. Installed SQL*NET listener, and set up
client stations with SQL*Net client software to ensure proper network
connections with the server. Special PL/SQL blocks were created to monitor
the system performance, and watch the fast growing segments which would
hamper the performance. Developed OS level programs to perform regular
shutdown, regular backups, start-up the listener, and instances. To keep
track of the system resource utilization, changed initialization parameters
to effect the performance. Created Oracle database with SQL code. Bulk
loading of data was done using SQL loader. Developed application with Forms
4.5 using built in functions, stored procedures with master-detail relations.
Code was developed using standard features like cursors, if loops, user
defined procedures and functions.
PowerBuilder was used to develop data windows for date entry with validation
checks, and integrity checks to store data in tables for batch processing.
Using PowerBuilder profiles established network connections to the client
stations.
4/92
to M/s Visakhapatnam Steel Plant
2/95 India
Project Leader/Database Administrator
Project 1 - Online System for Issue of General Items from Central Stores
(
5/94
- 12/94)
PowerBuilder was used to develop materials management application which used
all standard functions of Windows, data windows and menus to do ABC analysis
of stocks and produce graphical reports. Concepts of inheritance used to
maintain the properties of data windows over rode the scripts with suitable
SQL code for retrieving relevant data. Techniques like retrieval criteria,
sort features, order by, and group records features were used with data
windows. Drag and drop features were used for 'material issue' data windows.
Was specifically involved with database administration, system design,
development and testing.
Project 2 - Maintenance Management System (
2/93
- 12/93)
Initially, this project was done on mainframe, and later, data was
transferred from DB2 tables to Oracle tables. Regular data entry done using
screens developed in PowerBuilder and reports were taken. All standard
PowerBuilder techniques for building windows, menus, data windows, objects
and toolbars were used. Database administration, periodic download of data
as flat file is done for cross platform transfer to keep other systems in
sync. Undertook systems maintenance, development of code and testing.
Project 3 - Leave Accounting System (
4/92
- 11/92)
This system maintained employee leave particulars and updated status every
month. Coding and testing were the objectives.
Prior to Worked on data acquisition systems supplied by Westing House,
America, and process
4/92 computers for power plants supplied by Siemens, Germany.
