As an Elementary Assistant Principal, I led the school community through school reform by obtaining Adequate Yearly Progress two consecutive years and increasing our school`s Performance Index rating. A Saturday School Program was instituted for our 3rd and 4th grade students to provide additional instruction.
Supervised and/or facilitated Learning Teams for the purposes of reviewing evidenced-based instructional strategies to be implemented within the classroom improving student achievement. This collaborative approach produced teacher quality, parental involvement, marketing and recruiting, community engagement and student achievement.
Initiated and instituted a school-wide focus on extended and short answer responses on standardized, district-wide and school-based testing utilizing rubrics and scoring guides to assist students with identifying what constitutes an effective response. In addition to concentrating on sentence structure, spelling, grammar, and formatting responses correctly to receive the highest score.
Created school-wide SMART Goals (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, & Timely). All goals remained in alignment with the mission and vision of the school, content standards, curriculum & instruction and assessment. These goals resulted in maintaining our concentration on school improvement.
Led the charge for reaching the category of Effective for the 2010 school year and obtaining a 92% Performance Index.
