distributed shell (pdsh), LZO and LZMA compression, parallel multicore/mulithreaded compression,
and user behavior pattern education for optimized remote desktop and VNC responsiveness
Sun GridEngine enhancements: (1) Automatic granular job preemption based on flexible criteria
implemented as loadsensor daemon in python. (2) Abstraction layer reducing SGE qstat to python
class objects for robust manipulation and general usage.
Tagsys RFID Inc., Consulting US Director of IT, 2006-2009
Manage staff of one in US and two in France to support four offices worldwide, using Windows 2003
AD and Windows XP, SIP trunk phones, electronic access control system, VPN and remote file
sharing and remote desktop protocols
Implemented Expand Networks Accelerator for CIFS and RDP WAN optimization, greatly increasing
productivity of the team and facilitating collaboration overseas
CHiL Semiconductor Corp., Consulting IT Manager, 2006-2007
Complete IT solutions for innovative semiconductor startup having offices in US and Canada.
Windows 2003 AD, RHEL Linux, Subversion, Cadence EDA tools, PRI and SIP telephony, IPSec VPN
Created end user remote support utility for free unlimited user assistance, based on ssh port
forwarding and VNC
Radiospire Networks Inc., Consulting IT Manager, 2006-2007
Complete IT solutions for a fast-paced venture-backed startup producing a line of wireless hi-def
transmitters and receivers. Supported Windows 2003 AD, RHEL/Centos linux, Windows XP,
Subversion, Cisco phone system, Cisco VPN
Deployed and supported a cluster of 25 dualcore RHEL/Centos systems using SGE distributing
Synopsys high performance verification jobs
Engim Inc., from Part-Time IT Admin to IT Manager, 2003-2005
Complete IT solutions for cutting edge multi-channel 802.11a/b/g wifi company, developing MIMO
and later pre-802.11n, with 50 employees and offices in US and Canada. Windows 2000 AD, RHEL
Linux, Fedora, Sparc Solaris 8/9, Netapp.
Linux kernel compilation and debugging on a cluster of 12 Red Hat systems. Identified an ASUS
motherboard firmware issue causing the ATA controller to become unresponsive and result in kernel
panic. Unfortunately ASUS decided no update would be developed or released due to insufficient
sales of that model.
Automated the windows build process, using unattend and service pack slipstream integration.
Segmented the LANs on layer 3, isolating the experimental wifi test lab from the primary
development and production LANs
SimUtility Inc., from Support Technician to Software Developer I, 2002-2003
Responded to technical service calls at this High Performance Computing (HPC) Application Service
Provider (ASP). Provided external customer service from call answering and ticket creation, to
backend investigation, root cause analysis, resolution, or problem escalation.
Performed administrative and support tasks on large scale SGI SMP IRIX/MIPS systems, using LSF to
distribute compute intensive, disk IO intensive, and/or memory intensive applications such as fluid

analytics and bioinformatics gene sequencing, all run in the backend and provided to customers
through a simplified web GUI front-end.
Developed Java Servlets, JSP, CSS, Javascript, and xhtml. In particular, leveraged MySQL for
statistics, performance, and results, processed into jgraph and rendered client-side for an attractive
and visually pleasing end-user experience
Performed backend automation, communications and maintenance using python
Compaq Computer Corp., Computer Engineer I, 2000-2001
Marvel (AlphaServer SC) Qualification group sponsored extensive education and training in
preparation while waiting for Group 0 build of the newest line of super computers based on Alpha
64bit RISC architecture. Courses included Tru64 Internals, Linux Internals, Tru64 Administration,
Linux Administration, Network Administration, CPU Architecture I, II, and III, and Scalable Symmetric
Multiprocessors.
Training equipment at my sole disposal included a handful of intel-based PC s, a handful of alpha-
based workstations, three high performance dual processor DS20 servers, one 16-processor wildfire
GS320 supercomputer with 32G ram, one rack of dual redundant HSG80-powered RAID Fibre
Channel storage enclosures, Brocade Pleiades III Fibre Channel switches, operating on iSCSI
Assembled, disassembled, misconfigured and reconfigured all of the training equipment extensively
and repeatedly, exploring, characterizing, and documenting potential failure modes and symptoms.
Installed, formatted, reinstalled, reformatted, destroyed and recreated Operating Systems (Tru64
UNIX, various Linux distributions, and Linux from scratch) on all of the training equipment
extensively and repeatedly, documenting probable and improbable pitfalls and potential failure
modes that customers may encounter.
Benchmarked and optimized Apache Web Server on Wildfire, using SpecWeb 2000. Benchmarked
using SpecINT and SpecFP. Monitored benchmark result sites, and responded whenever the
AphaServer was leapfrogged by competition. Responded by going back into the lab, rebuilding and
repeating until new #1 results were produced, and then publish the results.
Tufts University, Teacher s Assistant, 1999-2000
Assisted teaching EE26, Digital Logic Systems. Instructed students in digital logic design, and the use
of Xilinx and jTAG FPGA logic boards in the lab
Assisted teaching Comp40, Machine Language. Instructed students in Assembly language on Intel
8086 processors
Assisted teaching Comp11, Introduction to Computer Science. Instructed students in C
programming, using Borland C++ on Windows, and gcc and g++ on RedHat Linux.
Tufts University, EECS Lab Administrator, 1999-2000
Created initial image and automated Windows NT lab machine image deployment using Norton
Ghost Multicast
Developed custom boot floppies and El Torito boot CD s containing low-level system administration
tools, such as ghost, ghstwalk, fdisk, format, and pqmagic
Liberty Mutual, Information Systems Intern, 1998
Piloted the hotswap program. All laptops perform automatic daily critical data backups. I.S.

golden system image and user data restored. All problem laptops are returned to the service
depot for triage in the hands of tech support personnel. Failure mode symptoms and statistics are
gathered, trend analysis is performed, phone triage techniques are developed and improved.
Identified two trends in failure modes, concerning IDE controllers that would lock up, resulting in an
unbootable system, and a heat related problem that resulted in system instability until the system
cooled down.
Developed scripts to simulate, trigger, and detect these failure modes in the service depot, to
prevent dispatching faulty systems into the field.
Worked with Compaq engineers to demonstrate and reproduce the results in the Houston service
depot, where they had been plagued by these previously unidentified and elusive problems.
Resulting from this work, Compaq released a firmware update that solved the IDE lockup problem,
and identified a mechanical fault in the heatsink interface.
