House brings championship resume to Raiders

Taylor House loved the idea of competing in collegiate rodeo – but not the idea of moving far away from home to do so.

Now he won’t have to.

With Three Rivers College on the verge of kicking off its first rodeo season in school history, the Poplar Bluff native will get to do both – college rodeo and staying close to home.

“I’m really excited,” House said. “That’s all I can say.”

Before Three Rivers started rodeo, House was looking at the prospect of having to move over 300 miles away to go to school in Kansas.

“Going away from home was going to be hard on me,” said House. “Not knowing anyone there was going to be a rough start and a big adjustment.”

House brings a lot to the rodeo arena for the Raiders. Among his list of championships are:

2010-11 Diamond S Rodeo – Team Roping (Header)

2008-09 Flickerwood Youth Rodeo – Boys All-Around, Calf Roping, and Team Roping (Header)

2008-09 4-H – Team Roping (Header)

2007-08 4-H – Team Roping (Header)

2007-08 R Bar H Youth Rodeo – Calf Roping

2007-08 Flickerwood Youth Rodeo – Junior Bull Riding

In addition, House was voted the Most Improved Player on the 2007-08 Poplar Bluff Mules freshman basketball team and won the Offense Award on the Kelly High School junior varsity basketball the following season.

“I look forward to working with Taylor,” Three Rivers coach Andy Carter said. “It's good to get people that have experience on both ends of the arena. Taylor being from Poplar Bluff is an example of how the program is serving the needs of the area.”
