SELECTED PROJECTS

Statistical Analysis--Statistical Analysis of the Marine Recreational Fishing Statistics Survey--Directed the data processing and conducted the statistical analysis of a survey project producing the national estimates of marine recreational fishing activity of the United State for the National Marine Fisheries Service, U.S Dept. of Commerce. Using SAS statistical software, a database was created based on a multiple record, hierarchical format, survey. The database contained data from over 200,000 households and two different surveys that were integrated requiring that cross product variances to be estimated. A system of multiple SAS programs was created to produce presentation tables for publication as well as for ad hoc tables for use by fisheries managers.

Survey--Survey And Analysis Of Beach Users--Designed and implemented a survey research project to estimate the value of the recreational benefit of beach use in Southern California in support of determining mitigation fees for sea wall construction. The projected used two independent surveys that collected information about beach use and counted beach users in sections of the beach. These were combined and analyzed using SPSS to generate the statistics for analysis. Final tables were prepared using Excel.

Modeling--Regression Analysis Of The Relationship Between Convention Room Bookings And Hotel/Motel Occupancy--A study was designed to determine the impact of convention room bookings on the hotel/motel occupancy throughout the San Diego region. Occupancy for each sub region of the County was modeled as dependent on convention room bookings and the influence (as measured by the Beta coefficient) indicated through linear regression modeling.

Land Use Economics--Economic Market Analysis Of A Planned Shopping Center In Imperial County--An economic impact analysis of the proposed 38-acre "The Plaza" commercial center in El Centro, CA was prepared. The study determined the impacts to other existing retail centers in El Centro and if market share would be lost as a result of the planned 340,000 square feet of retail development at the Plaza. The overall analysis determined if any loss of market share by existing retail centers would lead to blight as a result of physical changes in the environment. This analysis was used to support the environmental report document under CEQA guidelines.

Economic Impact Analysis--Economic Impact of The Imperial Sand Dunes Recreational Area Management Plan (RAMP) Alternatives--The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) of the U. S. Department of Interior was tasked to develop a new management plan for the Imperial Sand Dunes Recreational Area (ISDRA). The management plan required an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) which included a socio-economic analysis. As part of that analysis the economic impact of all alternative resource allocations for the plan was determined by me. Using IMPLAN the economic impact was determined for the region which included all of Imperial County, and portions of southeast Riverside County and southwest Arizona. Most of the direct economic activity for the ISDRA was associated with off road recreation. From that, the total direct, indirect, and induced economic impact for the region was evaluated for each alternative.

Fiscal Impact Analysis--Fiscal Impact Of Annexing The Roseland Community Into The City Of Santa Rosa--This project examined the impacts to the City of Santa Rosa budget from the annexation of approximately 400 acres of developed land that contained commercial, industrial, and residential land uses. The population in the area was approximately 4,300. The fiscal impact analysis was part of a larger study that analyzed the overall impact to the City of Santa Rosa including environmental, traffic, and infrastructure.
