Business start-up classes
Our current economy presents a myriad of opportunities for JCAL to inspire and attract a new mix of registrants, not only from South-east Queens but throughout the five boroughs.
A mix which includes, first and foremost, the entrepreneurial population which leads the ever expanding group of JCAL prospects. Next we have those employed in typical 9-5 positions; seeking better opportunities or promotion on their present jobs. We must also consider those, who even on unemployment insurance, are initiating life changes and searching for new paths to create an income. Lastly, there are those employed but reaching beyond an imploding corporate America to create alternate forms of businesses.
Many of our neighbors in the above categories have not registered at JCAL in high numbers as in the past. In tandem with economical realities, we propose that JCAL provide business start-up classes; a resource for those set on propelling themselves upwards to greater financial stability.
JCAL can provide courses with the added feature of connecting real life business owners with enrolled entrepreneurs to provide realistic solutions for running a business.
This would provide the USP (unique selling proposition) for successful JCAL marketing efforts both with registrants and local business owners in SE Queens and throughout the New York business community.
Entrepreneurs are ever on the lookout for informative tools and morale boosters which enable them to go the distance. JCAL, via cultural, intellectual and spiritual empowerment classes; aka methods of thinking outside the box, so to speak, can empower students with tools to build a business. In this way JCAL becomes a beacon, a resource to further community enrichment.
JCAL also stands to outdistance its competitors, and even push its profile to a national level, by tapping into a topic that is taking our attention literally by storm; that is the topic of environmental disasters, so unprecedented in its magnitude, we have yet to come to grips with it.
We must be ready to educate New Yorkers on the steadily emerging theme of natural disasters. Young and old need to know how to think around it, to maximize on damage prevention and move through it. This is especially applies to children who are often needless victims without information especially when adults are not prepared themselves, or unavailable to provide direction.
In summary JCAL could serve as the new icon, for high quality community building classes, relevant to the pressing needs of our times.

Often, in the midst of orchestrating our own busy lives, we come across a condition, or a social cause, that tugs at our attention. It may be a homeless person living in ad hoc despair on a subway platform. Or, an elderly person, slowing down, due to Alzheimer's, coming to grips with losing the home they love.
Many people with debilitating illnesses are unable to access much needed health care, or food stamp programs, going it alone, just as many elderly New Yorkers do. These and many other challenges are part of the day to day reality of many people here in our city.
This is where an informed, cumulative push, a fusion of joint efforts, a united way, so to speak, enables each of us to make our mark, to bring on the necessary changes.

CELEBRATING OUR INHERITANCE
In triad form, the establishment and evolution of Islam in America will be explored through the life works of Mr. W. D. Fard, the immigrant Muslim mystic teacher who appeared in Detroit, Michigan in the early 1930s; Elijah Muhammad (1897-1975), leader of the Nation of Islam, who was taught by the aforementioned mystic; and Wallace. D. Mohammed (1933-2008), the son of Elijah Muhammad and inheritor of the leadership over the Nation of Islam after his father's death in 1975. Three experienced representatives Dr. Fatimah Fanusie, Imam Nasif Muhammad and Imam Benjamin Bilal respectively will be interviewed concerning the lineage, legacy, and light of these historical figures within, not only black history, but American history.
CELEBRATING OUR INHERITANCE will provide you with the truth regarding these three historical personages and their contributions to Islamic thought among African Americans. You will see vividly how a group called the Lost-Found Nation of Islam in the Wilderness of North America under Elijah Muhammad, a group that was considered extremely radical and dangerously militant, was transformed into one of the most patriotic organizations in America under the leadership and teachings of Imam (Minister) Wallace D. Mohammed.
