Senior Scientist April 2004 present
As the leader of the Image Processing Group, I have participated and supervised several image and signal
processing R&D projects applied to the railroad industry. Some of my duties have been:
Development of real time signal processing algorithms for optical rail pro le analysis, including rail
type detection under partial occlusion. Development of digital lters to remove sun noise and other
errors. Integration system with user interface and database. Field testing.
Implementation and testing of Image Processing and Pattern Recognition algorithms for realtime
joint bar localization and crack detection using line-scan cameras. Integration with other real-time
data collection systems.
Development of a Machine Vision system for real-time inspection of steel beams.
Product management, including technology assessment, requirements gathering, version control, issue
tracking unit testing, build automation and continuous integration.
Development of data acquisition and presentation software for sideway mapping using stereo cameras
and GPS receiver.
Improvement of algorithms for fusion of DGPS with dead reckoning data using Kalman lter.
Writing of research and development proposals.
Team Ensco, Darpa Grand Challenge
Member April 2005 June 2006
Participated in the design, development and testing of DEXTER, an Autonomous Ground Vehicle
according to the requirements of the second DARPA Grand Challenge. The vehicle traveled 91 miles
fully autonomously in the Mojave Desert at speeds up to 40 mph and placed sixth out of 23 nalists.
Development of an obstacle detector using stereo cameras, part of the robot s automatic obstacle
avoidance system. Integration of obstacle detector with GPS/INS navigation system and path planner.
