Design Philosophy
I advocate and practice customer-focused design meaning that I believe insight and
knowledge of customer behavior and goals can help focus design efforts to the most ef cient
process and successful product.
As well as understanding customers, I'm also a rm believer of understanding the medium
used to implement designs both so that realistic and pragmatic designs can be achieved, and
so that I know what can potentially be achieved by that technology. As a result I'm con dant in
HTML, CSS and learning basic iOS interface development.
My most challenging (and rewarding) projects to date have been projects that involve cross-
channel design (for example designing experiences that cross between digital and physical
touch points.)
Mobile
At Monster I was the lead designer in the redesign of existing iPhone, iPad and Andriod
apps. I also started high level design on their mobile-web strategy before it was placed on
hold.
Currently I'm the lead designer for a start up focused in the retail-social space.
Complex Interaction Flows
For Air New Zealand I was responsible for designing complex booking ows that represent 4
billion of online revenue.
Pattern Libraries
Pattern libraries are important in creating a consistent and usable user experience, and also
allow for faster design and development cycles. At Datacom I created a pattern library for the
local government services team and at Monster I contributed new patterns to an already
established library.
Globalisation/Internationalization
Working for Air New Zealand I was responsible for creating designs that were appropriate for
19 global storefronts with 9 different languages including key markets in China and Japan.
At Monster I was the lead designer for the incorporation of chinahr.com (a recent aquisition)
into the Monster design framework.
