RESEARCH INTERESTS

Artificial Intelligence

Knowledge Representation, especially related to the Semantic Web

Description Logic (DL) Reasoning

Ontology Engineering

Semantics-based Software Engineering

EDUCATION

2006 University of Maryland College Park, MD

PhD., Computer Science GPA: 3.8/4.0

2004 University of Maryland College Park, MD

M.S., Computer Science. GPA: 3.8/4.0

2001 University of Mumbai Mumbai, India

B.S., Electronics Engineering First Class w/ Distinction

EXPERIENCE

2006- IBM TJ Watson Research Center Hawthorne, NY

Research Staff Member, Intelligent Application Analysis Group

2001-2006 University of Maryland College Park, MD

Research Assistant, Dept. of Computer Science (Sep 01-Present). Working in the

MINDSWAP Semantic Web Research Group supervised by Dr. James

Hendler.

Research Assistant, Dept. of Electrical Engineering (Sep 01 - Dec 01) . Worked

with Dr. Gang Qu on SAT Solvers

Summer 2003 Hewlett Packard Labs Bristol, UK

Worked with Dr. Steve Battle on exploring ontology use for software

development. Designed techniques for migration of an OWL ontology

to a Java API. An IBM development team has since built an API based

on the work (http://jastor.sourceforge.net).

Winter 2002 Fujitsu Labs of America College Park, MD

Worked on the STEER project under the supervision of Dr. Ryu

Masuoka. Developed an ontology mapping tool to aid heterogeneous

web-service composition.

S OFTWARE PROJECTS

SWOOP

Hypermedia-inspired OWL Ontology Engineering framework. Plug-in

based architecture supports (multiple) ontology browsing, editing,

reasoning, search/query, annotation and version control.

Uses Pellet, an OWL DL reasoner. Tableaux tracing feature developed

in Pellet supports debugging of OWL ontologies.

OWL API

Part-time developer of the WonderWeb OWL API, which provides

programmatic access to data structures representing OWL ontologies.

SMORE

Ontology-based markup tool aimed at average web-users that supports

annotation of web documents (incl. text/photos). Features include

ontology term search, auto-inferencing triples & constraint checking.

ONTOLINK

A knowledge integration tool that can be used to specify semantic and

syntactic mappings/transformations between concepts defined in

different ontologies/schemas.
