Coach Evaluation

Mimi Beck has been on the Oak Knoll Varsity team for 3 years. As a freshman and sophomore she saw significant minutes off the bench. Her speed with and without the ball is a strong attribute of hers. Her speed was a huge reason why she saw minutes at such a young age (9th and 10th grades) on a very good experienced field hockey team. As a junior Mimi has really improved on her game. She is a sensational defender that follows through on her play. Rarely does a forward get by her defensive stick. She understands the game so well. She knows when to be aggressive and when to hold back and patiently wait for the right time to tackle. She will stop offenders with her block tackle or disrupt their play with her timely jabs. Either way she adapts her game well and consistently stops offensive players. Mimi also does not shy away from using her stick work. She will come up with the ball and instead of hitting back to the opposition she gets around them, creates space and confidently moves the ball up the field. Mimi also is a pro at "getting the call". Her body position is always perfect; therefore, she always forces opponents to foul. She does this on defensive corners, field and circle play.

While Mimi has all the skills of a top defender and the two things that I love about her play the most are her constant communication and her persistence to always get better. Her communication is the backbone of our defense and the spark to our offense. She understands the importance of talking on the field and constantly supports her teammates during play. I tell the girls what they need to work on either in the off season or in between games and Mimi is the one player that takes in every word and make it her job to improve. Whether it is her tackles, stick work, drive or stroke, Mimi keeps on learning the game and keeps on getting better. A mark of an outstanding athlete and competitor.

I confidently recommend Mimi as a college player. She understands the game, has stellar defensive and offensive skills and is extremely coachable. She will be a fine addition to a collegiate field hockey program.

Scouting Report

Mimi Beck plays for one of the best field hockey programs in the state of New Jersey, Oak Knoll. They have been state champions for the past three years and are well coached and very talented. Mimi has also played in Futures for the past two years. She is very comfortable playing at a high level and truly excels when she is on the pitch. Her stick skills are excellent, she plays a very aggressive game and is an excellent defender. She has great athletic ability, an excellent stroke, and a very accurate and strong drive. Mimi plays at all the important showcases and is a year round player. She is truly devoted to her sport. Her academics are strong and Mimi has a tremendous desire to play at the next level.
