FULL TIME FACULTY LECTURER (Fall 2007 to Present)
Indiana University Northwest School of Public and Environmental Affairs with a
concentration in Criminal Justice. Conduct college-level courses in SPEA to university
students and serve as academic advisor for students. Prepare and present lectures to students
on law and criminal justice practices; research and compile bibliographies of specialized
materials for outside reading assignments; stimulate class discussions. Plan, coordinate and
participate in special events involving university and community officials. Member of
campus Council on Diversity, Board Member of the Northwest Indiana Law Enforcement
Academy.
SECURITY INVESTIGATOR (2004 to 2007)
Horseshoe Casino, Hammond, IN. Responsible for investigations of incidents that occur on
the Horseshoe Casino properties. Manage and prepare confidential reports for employee
personnel, guest and other related areas. Supervise over major incidents and co-ordinate
security personnel to assist in investigations. Prepare documentation of reports to be directed
to VP of Security and Risk Manager. Train employees both Security and non-security
personnel.
"CHIEF OF POLICE" (1993 to 2004)
St. John, Indiana, population 9,000 and 8.5 square miles. St. John is located 30 miles south
of Chicago, IL in Northwest, Indiana. Responsible for public relations and total quality
management skills. Demonstrated strong management, leadership, training, and
communication skills. A working knowledge of modern police administration practices and
community policing. Demonstrated an ability to enhance public understanding and support of
police services, activities, and programs for the past ten years. Administered orientation
program for applicants interested in law enforcement. As Police Chief I was responsible for
implementing and administering two major community partnership grants from the federal
government. Reviewed and updated the Policy and Procedure manual.
"F.B.I. NATIONAL ACADEMY 1987
Was selected and attended the 148th Session of the eleven-week program of advanced
professional instruction. Throughout the training, particular emphasis was placed on
leadership development. The National Academy seeks to provide maximum benefit to the
Law Enforcement community by training career officers to meet the challenges of the future
of the Law Enforcement Profession.

CHIEF OF DETECTIVES" (1986 to 1992)
Merrillville IN is located in Northwest IN with 32 square miles and a population of 25,000.
As Chief of Detectives I supervised eight detectives and two technicians. Accountable for all
major crime scene investigations. Responsible for teamwork, departmental policies,
interagency relationships, documentation, managing and directing the Investigations Division
and internal affairs of the Merrillville Police Department.
"PATROL COMMANDER" 1985 - 1986
Administered the manpower allocation, scheduling, traffic management and police resource
allocation of the Patrol Division for the Merrillville Police Department. The Patrol Division
consisted of 40 sworn officers. Reviewed and updated the Policy and Procedure manual.
"POLICE TRAINING ACADEMY" (1989-1992)
Director for the Northwest Indiana Law Enforcement Training Center. Responsible for the
operation, budgeting, maintenance, performance, scheduling, record keeping and the yearly
training of 1,300 sworn police officers for 30 police agencies. Utilized department
instructors, personnel from other Police agencies. Coordinated in-service training programs.
Interviewed and trained potential instructors for the Training Center. Coordinated the yearly
training schedule and maintained the training records.
"ADJUNCT PROFESSOR" (1992 to Fall of 2005)
Adjunct professor for Indiana University Northwest Campus for the School of Public Affairs
in the criminal justice field for the past ten years. Responsible for lesson plans, curriculum
and testing materials
"RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT OF COPS GRANT
As Chief of Police, I was instrumental as the Project Director of four major grants from the
COPS office which totaled over $500,000. Duties included research, scanning the basic
problems, analysis, develop strategies to address problem, and assessment. As Project
Director I implemented strategies for the problems that were addressed in the problem
solving partnerships.
"CERTIFIED MASTER INSTRUCTOR" (1994 to 2003)
Certified Master Instructor from the Indiana Law Enforcement Board. Responsible for
lesson plans, training needs, curriculum development, evaluation and development of
training. Certified as a primary, provisional, and master instructor. Trained in areas of first
line supervisors, middle management and instructor development certification. Responsible
for training the trainer program to certify personnel as certified instructors for the Indiana
Law Enforcement Academy. I have trained over 3000 police officers since 1991.

Committees and Boards at IUN:
Campus Council on Diversity: (CCD) 2006-2009
Presently sitting on the CCD to assist search and screen committees in attracting and retaining
qualified faculty and staff reflective of the student body at IU Northwest. Examples of committees I
sat on were for the position for Visiting Assistant Professor in the History Department and assisted in
a search committee for doing research with prison inmates.
Advisor for Alpha Phi Sigma:
Presently the advisor for Alpha Phi Sigma which is a nationally recognized honor society for
students in the criminal justice sciences. Duties include identifying and certifying qualifications of
student candidates for membership in the undergraduate program.
Northwest Indiana Law Enforcement Academy (NILEA) 2006-2009
Sat on the Board of Directors for the Northwest Indiana Law Enforcement Academy. Acted as an
advisor to the Board on matters pertaining to curriculum in criminal justice topics for the academy.
NILEA provides in-service training programs to over one thousand two hundred (1,200) police
officers, offering up to one (100) hundred in-service training classes and three fifteen (15)- week
basic recruit academy classes annually.
IUN On The Road: 2008
Assisted and attended IUN on the Road that was conducted in Michigan City, Indiana. This project
was to have a meeting with parents and future students who planned to attend college. As a
representative from IUN in the SPEA Criminal Justice Program I gave the parents and students who
attended information about the program and answered any questions they might have.
Kids College at IUN: 2008
During the summer, Indiana University Northwest, in Gary, Indiana, hosts an exciting and rewarding
experience for students. Kids College is a summer program that offers more than twenty-four courses
during a three-week session. These classes will enrich and enhance the students' understanding of the
subject material. The teachers teach all of the classes using hands-on approaches. The classes are also
taught without academic screening, tests, and homework. The teachers encourage creativity and
intellectual curiosity. The students come to learn new things, but they also learn things about
themselves. I instructed two classes at IUN for Kids College. The programs were geared towards
student ages from 9 to 16 years old. I taught careers in criminal justice along with criminal
investigation. The purpose of this was to give future college students information they would need
to make a career path in the criminal justice programs at IUN.
Academic College Experience: (ACE) 2008
During ACE Day, students experience the academic atmosphere at IU Northwest by attending
presentations given by University professors and participating in class discussions. They also have
the chance to consider future career options by participating in career-focused sessions with
representatives from the University s various departments and programs. During ACE Day,
participants interact with other college-bound students from across the seven-county Northwest
Indiana region. I conducted a seminar in careers in the criminal justice field.
