Texas Education Agency - OLAP Pilot

(Dec 00Mar 01)

Technical lead for OLAP tool evaluation for TEA. Involved the gathering of user

requirements, coordinating vendor demos and documentation of results for TEA selection

process. Utilizing Microstrategy 7.0 and UDB on AIX, I presented the Microstrategy tool to

users at TEA in conjunction with presentations of Hyperion ESSBASE tools by another party.

Technical duties included construction of proof of concept reports and optimization of

queries as well as installation of Microstrategy server and client software.

First American Tax Service Project

(Dec 98Sep 00)

Designed and led the technical team that created a custom billing layer between the

clients Legacy systems and Oracle Financials. The project also included migrating the

client from character based interface to Oracles NCA architecture. Major functionality

included custom pricing, revenue reporting, e-mail detail reporting and revenue

recognition.

My technical duties included creation of database schema and related indexes and keys in

Oracle 7, creation of stored procedures using pl/sql, database loads using sqlloader,

shell scripts for maintenance operations, mass mail functions using C programs and Oracle

reports through Developer 2000 tools.

My project duties included daily interaction with all levels of business and technical

personnel, coordination between technical groups within the client and presentation of key

concepts during training sessions.

I assisted in the testing and configuration of a prototype reservation system utilizing

TUXEDO 6.4 as the middleware component. Duties included running multiple test scenarios to

find optimal queue lengths and services per queue.

Utilizing Informix esql/c I implemented and tested interface programs that took input

from the mainframe systems of HEB and distributed the information across multiple

downstream hosts. Distribution was accomplished via multiple socket threads communicating

via a master controller to each retail site. I designed and implemented additional logic

to handle item management functions that controlled the behavior of items at individual

stores.

Designed and implemented the Advanced shipping notice functionality for the stores. This

involved the tracking of individual items ordered to account for substitutions and shorts

of original amounts. Wrote monitoring daemon to track timely arrival of host ASN feeds and

alert in the event of delays.

I also supported and modified the server portion of the Telxon RF applications. The

applications supported the in store functionality of counting and receiving items as well

as stock status and shelf tag printing. Communications were handles via message queues and

socket connections.

Also supported and modified the stock receiving applications. Changes included modifying

the application to decrease locking and concurrency issues.

I served as the technical lead for the final year of the project, overseeing the

knowledge transfer to HEB personnel for a smooth transfer of responsibilities.

Provided secondary support for the ordering engine functionality which utilized C++ and

Roguewave libraries.

Southwest Airlines

Project (May 94 - Sep 95) - I served as the technical lead and object

librarian for an object oriented development project utilizing C++ on HP/UX. The project

was a revenue accounting systems for the finance department of Southwest. I designed and

implemented the object to relational layers of the application utilizing libraries from

Roguewave technologies. These classes encapsulated not only the physical implementation

details but also the RDBMS layer as well. I also designed the translation programs that

took sales information from multiple airline entities and converted the data into Sybase

tables using Sybases bulk load utility. I assisted in deploying the HP systems and

installed and configured the Sybase engine for the development team, and later served as

backup for both the systems administrator and database administrator. I also designed

several reporting screens utilizing Powerbuilder.

Dallas Market Center Project

(Feb 89May 94) - I designed and implemented a PC network

based registration for the Dallas Market Center Company using C and Novell Btrieve. The

system tracked attendance to marketing functions and provided demographic and industry

analysis for reporting and mailing. The system utilized low cost client computers with a

Novell Netware server acting as the common data point. The systems supported multiple

sites and forwarded changes to each active location via low cost modem connections. I

supported all aspects of the software as well as the hardware, network and logistical

aspects of its operation. I also maintained and redesigned the COBOL/CICS tenant leasing

systems for the Market Center. This system tracked all their tenant and contract

information and fed their accounts receivable system to enable billing. I wrote programs

that provided mainframe-leasing information to the client PC to enable printing of leasing

contracts faster and speed up negotiations. Mainframe information was interfaced via

direct manipulation of the terminal emulation card present on the PCs.

Loews Anatole Hotel Project

(June 91Oct 91) - I was the operations manager at the

Loews Anatole account during a six-month transition of an EDS contract. I was responsible

for overseeing the 24x7 operations and personnel and coordinated the training and turnover

of responsibilities to a new team. Role was additional responsibility to the Market Center

Project since the Properties were adjacent.

I supported and enhanced the COBOL/CICS systems of the Dallas Central Appraisal District.

The systems are the central repository for property values for several counties and other

taxing entities.

I designed and implemented a field appraisal application utilizing RF terminals. This

property. The application also supported messaging to the appraiser in the field from the

home offices. I was also involved in a trial rewrite of the automobile taxing system-using

ADABase/Natural. I also wrote statistical and demographic reporting utilizing COBOL and

use of resources and run times for jobs.
