PROGRAM COORDINATION
Coordinated a five-site
Comprehensive Perinatal Services Program (CPSP), providing health
education to an ethnically diverse pool of women on
Medi-Cal.
o
Supervised a staff of four,
delivering health education to over 800 clients monthly.
o
Provided lively, hands-on, group,
and one-on-one education, helping women and teens learn about
proper nutrition, HIV and STD prevention, and family
planning.
o
Empowered and motivated clients by
involving them in their own education.
Managed a community-based Smoking
Cessation program for the City of Berkeley, developing administrative structures
and teaching and coordinating smoking cessation classes for WIC
clients.
Developed, coordinated, and
implemented adolescent sexuality programs at Frick Junior High School in East Oakland. Designed effective
curriculum for Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention program classes for
low-income, at-risk students and wrote a comprehensive program
manual to ensure continuity of services.
Created, as member of planning
group, a new program offering palliative care options for patients
facing a terminal illness in the Chemotherapy Department at Kaiser
Walnut Creek. Provided
framework for goal creation, focus for program direction and
planning, and clarification of materials presented to others in
field for program assessment.
Assessed physical activity levels
of young Latino women through Department of Public Health,
San Francisco as part of five year prevention plan
based on recommendations made in MPH program community health
assessment project.
HEALTH EDUCATION
Created widely praised interactive
workshops at Kaiser Park Shadelands for medical staff teams and for
Continuing Medical Education for physicians (Grand Rounds),
integrating adult learning styles and emphasizing need for
coordination in team situations on topics such as cultural
competency and HIV prevention.
Taught childbirth education
classes, providing comprehensive one-on-one instruction to couples
and women throughout the East Bay. Increased participants'
understanding of nutrition, anatomy and physiology, labor and
delivery, breastfeeding, newborn, and post-partum care.
Motivate chronically ill Kaiser
Permanente patients to make positive behavioral changes through
brief, collaborative, patient-centered
negotiations for such
illnesses as:

Asthma, Cholesterol, Diabetes,
Fibromyalgia,
Hypertension, Smoking
Cessation, and Weight Management
Developed, delivered and
coordinated in-service trainings on the latest developments in AIDS
research, ensuring up-to-date knowledge among AIDS Minority Health
Initiative staff; maintained Health Education library for staff
use.
Initiated HIV drop-in and
easy-access testing services as well as pre and post HIV test
counseling at Kaiser Park Shadelands as member of Interfacility HIV
Education Committee.
Created and led successful
workshop on issues of sexually transmitted diseases using a
value-clarification and decision-making approach to Marin Academy freshmen-level Human Development class.
Commended by teacher for ability to tailor workshop to specific
needs of students and for ability to remain objective while
discussing controversial issues.
Created and led successful
workshops on Responding to Unequal Treatment: Addressing The Health
Effects of Racism in the Prevention of Hypertension for
Laney College, City College, Bay Area Consortium for Quality
HealthCare, Black Infant Health Program, and the San Francisco Free
Clinic.
