Analytical and research
studies in crowdsourcing (October 2007 to December 2008)
My research in graduate school
involved case studies in the use of blogs, social networks and microblogging
tools for online participatory journalism. I studied the various methods
employed by news organizations to utilize firsthand accounts from citizens,
audience expertise on specific subjects, and presentation of the information
thus obtained. The research involved interviewing leaders of crowdsourced
journalism projects, media scholars and reporters in order to gain an insight
into the various aspects of participatory journalism in the Web 2.0 world. The
aforementioned research was presented both as an academic paper and a panel
discussion at Internet Research Conference 9.0.
