Resume:

January **, ****

To Whom it May Concern:

I am pleased to recommend Nathan Bilbao as an excellent candidate for employment. Nathan was a

student in two undergraduate courses I taught at the University of Washington: User Experience Design

and Foundations of Human Centered Design. As I came to know Nathan in this capacity, I was impressed

by his excellent communication skills, creativity in design work, and passionate contributions to his

project team and the class as a whole.

Nathan consistently produced high quality work, showing effective written and oral communication

skills, as well as a proactive willingness to contribute beyond course requirements. For example, Nathan

had a more extensive background in art and design principles than many students in the interdisciplinary

User Experience Design class. He volunteered to share some of his expert knowledge with his classmates

by giving a presentation on product design sketching. Nathan distilled a significant body of knowledge

into a brief, accessible presentation. He effectively used verbal explanations and visual examples to

communicate that knowledge to an interdisciplinary audience with expertise ranging from engineering to

design to technical communication. While I am impressed with his effective presentation skills, it is his

deep engagement and willingness to contribute beyond mere requirements that I believe would make him

a truly exceptional employee.

Nathan has also shown excellence in taking projects through the full research and design lifecycle:

conducting user research, translating the findings into design requirements, designing and building

iterative prototypes, and evaluating those prototypes for design improvements. In the Foundations of

Human Centered Design class, he worked with a team of students to redesign the University of

Washington class registration website. In the User Experience Design class, he worked on a team to

design an online tool called QuickFitMeals to support students in making healthier eating choices. His

leadership skills were clear in the group work I observed, and his contributions included creating the

functional prototypes for both projects.

In summary, I have no reservations in recommending Nathan Bilbao. Nathan is an excellent candidate for

employment, as he consistently and confidently produces high quality work, often exceeding situational

requirements. If you would like to follow up with me about this recommendation, please feel free to

contact me by email at ********@*.**********.*** or by phone at 206-***-****.

Sincerely,

Rebecca Walton
