Every takeoff is optional. Every landing is mandatory.
My name is Peter Zhoujie Lyu. I am a PhD candidate at University of Michigan, Department of Aerospace Engineering, where I work on my research on aircraft design optimization at the Multidisciplinary Design Optimization Laboratory. I was born and grew up in Shanghai, China.
I love airplanes, automobiles, and boats. I obtained my private pilot license in 2011, boating license in 2010, and commercial drivers license in 2008. I also have interests in website design and mobile application development. I have developed several apps for iOS and Android platforms.
Research Interests
Multidisciplinary Design Optimization
Develop multidisciplinary design optimization methodologies and gradient-based optimization algorithms with adjoint method for conceptual and preliminary aircraft design.
Unconventional Aircraft Configurations
Explore unconventional aircraft configurations, such as blended-wing-body configurations, with high-fidelity computational fluid dynamics and finite element analysis simulations.
Computational Fluid Dynamics
Perform aerodynamic shape optimization using Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes computational fluid dynamics analysis with automatic-differentiation adjoint implementation.
My Hobbies
After I get my private pilot license, flying becomes one of my favorite hobbies. I am currently a member of University of Michigan Flyers Club based at Ann Arbor airport. I flew on Cessna 152, 162, and 172. The Michigan weather certainly provides great opportunities to sharpen my piloting skills.
I love driving, from cities roads to race tracks. I like to try out different cars, vans, trucks and buses, to get a feel of their unique characteristics. I worked part-time at Public Transportation Service at University of Michigan. Driving a 40-foot-long Gillig bus around the campus is surely an awesome way for me to relax myself.
I like technologies, especially the new and cool stuff. It's very enjoyable to hands-on the latest creative products. I hosted a website called "Think-Dash" to share the latest technology news.
I also love traveling to see different parts of the world and the cultures. I dream one day, I will fly round the world with myself piloting.
