Responsible for gathering business and user requirements, performing market analyses, defining interaction models, and creating technical designs, task flows, wireframes, and other documentation to support each project.
Smithsonian Ocean PortalOnline Exhibit Website
The Smithsonian Institution National Museum of Natural History s Ocean Portal is the online counterpart to the Sant Ocean Hall, the largest permanent exhibition in the museum. It is the first interactive ocean exhibit Web site in the world, with a commitment towards ocean activism and education. Led the user experience development and design, including focus groups, demographic surveys, user flows, page designs, and content development. Also helped implement a massively scaled Drupal front end and content management system, the first by a government Web site. The Ocean Portal launched to glowing reviews, winning two Communicator Awards (in the Cultural Institution and Non-Profit Organization categories) as well as a People s Voice Webby award.
Toura Mobile App Builder Mobile Content Management System
Toura’s Mobile App Builder is a robust Web-based content management system giving non-profit organizations and cultural institutions the ability to easily create engaging mobile apps across all the major platforms. Designed the user experience for the new version 2.0 of the software, greatly expanding the offering and flexibility of the system, including a new visual file management tool, while maintaining a flow familiar to existing customers and working within the requirements of varied mobile devices and app stores. The system has attracted numerous clients, even expanding into the commercial arena, such as Pace University, the British Museum, and Wiley and Sons Publishing.
The Smoking Gun Online News Web Site
The Smoking Gun is the preeminent online news site focusing in the weird and unusual crimes and photographs, with a monthly viewership of over 1.3 million page hits. Redesigned the site architecture for the first update since 1997 to include modern features and functionality, such as commenting, media galleries, video, blogging, and social network sharing. These changes helped reverse a two-year slide in readership, and implementation of a new content management system streamlined their publishing process and strengthened infrastructure by not relying on a sole internal developer.
Additional projects include the HarperCollins Content Builder and BookPerk.com, both Web-based applications for HarperCollins Publishers, and the StarTrek.com site for CBS Entertainment.

Provide user experience, content management, and editorial services to corporate and non-profit clients, drawing on writing expertise from a background in public speaking training as well as numerous publications in newspapers, magazines, and academic journals.
Attain Fertility Web Site
AttainFertility.com is an in-vitro fertilization resource and network of clinics, created to making an inviting home for what can be a generally intimidating process for hopeful parents. Consulted on the information and interaction design for AttainFertility.com, including a content audit and re-design of their appointment making and sign-up process. The site has greatly increased appointments in their clinics, and the new registration system is receiving far less drop-outs in the middle of the process.
Teacher s PickWeb Site
Teacher’s Pick was a community-driven arts and entertainment site, focusing on presenting contrasting reviews by critics with varying opinions of a piece. Contributed numerous film reviews for the site and served on the editorial board, working on content management and presentation.
THE CITY OF NEW YORK
Senior Editor and Information Architect (2007-2009)
Developed and managed content for NYC.gov portal and 70+ City agency Web sites. Worked with agencies, offices, and boards in the construction and planning of new Web sites. Developed information architecture and gathered business requirements for select enterprise applications.
NYC Department of Cultural Affairs Grant Application Web Application
The DCLA Online Grant Application system is a groundbreaking Web-based system for the application for, and processing of, the largest cultural grant fund distribution in the country. Led the business requirements gathering and contributed to the user experience design of the system from the moment of its incarnation, taking what was a multi-week paper process and turning it into a quick online process that can be completed in a matter of hours. The system has received numerous accolades, including the Center for Digital Government Excellence award in 2009, and was presented to the Ford Foundation with great success in 2011 as an example of technology serving the non-profit cultural community.
City Clerk Marriage Bureau Web Application & On-site Kiosks
The City Clerk s Marriage Bureau manages all marriage and domestic partnership licenses for the City of New York. An overhaul of the licensing process included rethinking the physical City Clerk offices and wedding space as well as incorporating a new ticketing system and process for people applying online before appearing in person. Designed the user experience for the front- and back-end systems, and a separate interface for on-site kiosks. This highly publicized project vastly streamlined the process for getting married in New York City, the second-biggest marriage destination in the country, and was recognized with the Digital Government Award for Best Application Serving the Public in 2008.
NYC.gov Web Portal
NYC.gov is one of the most highly trafficked government sites in the world, covering not only the parent portal but sites for over 100 government agencies, boards, offices, and programs. The goal of NYC.gov is to create a unified source of information and functionality for the residents of the City, while letting each individual entity preserve their own identity. Served as senior editor and site architect for NYC.gov, balancing the needs of disparate and often autonomous groups with the need to present a comprehensive, cohesive communication to site visitors and the people of New York.
