Chronology of Contractor
/Employee Positions
Voxware Inc
9/97 to 1/98
Field Support Manager/Engineer
for US - Western Region
Voxware is an Internet Telephony Startup primarily dealing with Audio
and Voice compression and transmission in a lossy environment.
The applications are designed to work cross-platform (Win32, Mac &
Unix) in an Internet environment. I dealt with TCP/IP and Internet
connectivity issues; including developing software which uses TCP/IP,
UDP/IP and sockets, as well as GUI implementation using Microsoft
Foundation Classes (MFC) and Microsoft Visual C/C++ (Developer
Studio).
I was required to provide software implementation troubleshooting as
well as do custom integration and development work specific to
customer (OEM's) requirements. This involved a lot of travel, customer
contact and knowledge of the Telecom Industry as it applies to the
Internet. Customers included Microsoft, Apple, Netscape, Oracle as
well as domestic and Asian hardware manufacturers and PC Game
Developers.
MacTemps Inc
5/97 to 8/97Macromedia Director programming in Lingo on
Win95, Filemaker Pro, Network troubleshooting
APL Inc
7/97 to 8/97 Microsoft Visual Basic/Access Programming.
Converting PC/Mac Filemaker Pro database applications to Visual
Basic/Access.
PeopleSoft Inc
. 5/96 to 9/96 While on a leave of absence from Oracle,
I spent three months as part of a small team porting PeopleSoft's
MS-Windows/Microsoft Foundation Classes (MFC ) based Human Resources
applications to the Macintosh using the Microsoft Visual C++ Cross
Compiler.
Oracle Corp
2/95 to 3/97 As a Senior Software Engineer for Oracle Corp
I was part of the Developer/2000 development team. Developer/2000 is a
market leading interface design tool (for Windows, Mac & UNIX) for
access into relational databases. Development environments included
Microsoft Visual C ++, Symantec Cafe (for Java), Metrowerks
Codewarrior C++ & Java.
Montgomery Securities
(ADP) 10/94 to 2/95 Hired as a contractor in the
position of Macintosh Application Engineer specializing in Networking
(TCP/IP & AppleTalk). Responsibilities include porting existing
AppleTalk networking code from MPW Pascal to Metrowerks C/C++ and
providing design and implementation of AppleTalk based
live-quote/tickerplant server product in Metrowerks CodeWarrior and
C++.
Synopsys
9/94 to 10/94 As a contractor in the position of Senior
Database and Application Engineer, I execute SYBASE DBA functions and
create and update Client-Server applications based on a large SYBASE
database, front-ended by 4th Dimension 3.1.
in Touch Group
5/94 to 9/94 As a contract employee in the position of
Senior Database and Application Engineer, I executed Oracle DBA
functions and created and updated Client-Server applications based on
a large ORACLE7 database (150+ tables), front-ended by 4th Dimension
and MPW C/Pro*C applications in addition todeveloping strategic,
long-term computing infrastructure architectures and migration plans
to a HP 9000/UX Oracle system. Additionally, I assisted in the
re-design of the inTouch primary product, a place-based, multimedia
kiosk.
Apple Computer
3/94 to 5/94 Technical resource to the Global Software
Schedule and Colombo 1.5 projects. These were internal Client-Server
projects, originating in the Research & Development for Information
Systems & Technology (R & D for I S & T) business unit, using 4th
Dimension, Oracle7, MPW, C++/MacApp, etc.
Babcock & Brown Investment Bank
1/94 to 3/94 Hired in the temporary
position of Senior Database and Application Engineer (until a
permanent employee was located), I provided demanding
financial/HR/communication Client-Server applications based on SYBASE,
front-ended by 4th Dimension and C++/MacApp in addition to developing
strategic, long-term computing infrastructure architectures.
Global Village Telecommunications
9/93 to 2/94 Assist in the research
and development of a commercial software product "GlobalCenter" in
MacApp/MPW/C++ and MacTCP that has to do with the Macintosh, the
Internet,
communications and networking.Designed a technical support database
application in 4th Dimension.
Benham Capital Management
8/93 to 10/93 Develop and review data
structures and provide implementation planning for a production
VAX/VMS SYBASE 4.9.2 (Testing on Netware 3.1.1, SYBASE 4.2.2 NLM)
mutual fund customer service application. Reviewed PowerBuilder
structures associated with transaction preprocessing system.
OpenVision Technologies
7/93 to 11/93 Developed a Macintosh/4D Server
Front-End to an existing "Great Plains" accounting system server,
using Clear Access, Clear Links. Front-End to be Server Independent
(i.e. SQL, 4D Server or Great Plains Server) and provide cross
platform strategies for eventual Windows 3.1 implementation.
KPMG Peat Marwick
(ExIS) 3/92 to 7/93 At the beginning of 1992 to the
present, I became solely contracted to a joint venture of the
"big-eight" accounting firm, Peat Marwick (KPMG) and Apple Computer
called ExIS. Based in Palo Alto I was the Lead Designer of a highly
complex 4D/SYBASE project for a prominent Venture Capital client,to
manage Cash Flow,
Investments, Financial Reporting, Lead Tracking and a host of other
functions. This project involved complex data structures, tight
integration of 4D modules, severe normalization, recursive
relations,100+ Tables, large amounts of data, and a Object Oriented
presentation. Providing this type of functionality with a Procedural
4GL Front end and a Relational Back End was quite a challenge but
proved to be successful. It was here that I became quite adept at SQL
programming. My final task was to single- handedly convert the front
end (a 6 meg 4Dstructure!) to 4D 3.0.2 and provide multi-
window/multi-processing capability.
During this time I was a Beta-Tester for the 4D/Oracle products from
ACI and was involved in design work for the implementationof a
Multi-Platform ORACLE 7 installation for a one of the Regional Bell
Operating Companies. Also while contracted to ExIS I designed a
Contact Tracking/Document management application using 4th Dimension
3.0 and MS Access for a well known Palo Alto venture capital firm.
Independent Consultant
6/91 to 3/92Installed SYBASE, 4th Dimension
and Omnis solutions for a variety of firms in the Sales, Manufacturing
and Tele-Marketing Fields.
Softron International
3/89 to 5/91 Responsible for the design and
installation of a large Macintosh-based, enterprise-wide corporate
information system for a fast growing, multi-level, manufacturing firm
based in Southern California.. As the VP in charge of Data Systems I
was in charge of all information functions including staffing, EIS and
tephone systems. Participated in the Beta Testing of SYBASE 4.0 (for
SUN and Intel platforms) and the 4D/SQL Server connectivity externals.
This project required some interesting and decidedly non-trivial
database modeling and programming to allow for the hierarchical and
recursive nature of multi-level (also called Network Marketing)
commission plans.
Apple Computer
5/89 to 10/89Database consultant at Apple Computer in
Cupertino as one of the primary designers of the ResponseLine
project.ResponseLine was a 4th Dimension project in the IS & T
department the purpose of which was to provide and analyze Customer
Support information for all Apple products. While at Apple I
participated in a lengthy beta test of 4th Dimension 2.0. This project
eventually evolved into the CAFE II project which is still in use.
