DBA for the development, user-test, and production databases running applications used
for bad debt monitoring on long distance calls, centralized blocking of long distance
calling, and producing letters notifying customers of various account actions. These
applications consist of over 400 tables and indexes with approximately 375 functions,
procedures and packages, many of which are utilizing the Oracle Transparent Gateway for
DB2. The production database server is on a Sun E5500 running Solaris 2.6 and holds
approximately 100g of data managed with Veritas file systems.
Responsibilities include running and monitoring the daily backup, coalesce and analyze
functions, as well as continual performance monitoring and tuning. Control change
management of all new/modified procedures and functions into the production and user-test
environments. These daily functions are accomplished using Unix c-shell and k-shell
scripts, Unix crontabs, SQLPLUS, PL/SQL, SQL-Station, and DBArtisan.
Installed and tested the upgrade of Oracle from release 8.0.5 to release 8.1.6 and
currently working on the upgrade to 8.1.7. Created UNIX scripts to run a variety of SQL
processes in background. Assist with testing of all upgrades to the Oracle Transparent
Gateway for DB2.
In addition, was originally the primary DB2 DBA in the OS 390 environment and now provide
backup support and mentoring of the current DBA.
Also, currently responsible for the high-level design on all projects, as well as the
supervision of 5 programmer analysts. The main application consists of a mainframe
component written in COBOL using DB2, a Power Builder GUI interface, and the Oracle
database component using PL/SQL and SqlPlus.
