Microsoft Corporation (June 2008 – May 2011) Denver, CO and Redmond, WA OSD Shared Services
Principal Operations Engineer/Architect:
I delivered a new, ground-breaking, industry-changing design in host-based network security and drove new thinking in
virtualization, cloud and distributed authentication services. I also delivered a new Active Directory forest design and strategy
and developed an Identity roadmap for Microsoft’s Shared Services Group within OSD. I played a leadership role in the
architectural efforts in extending current software services to meet new scale and flexibility demands to provide a richer set of
core services for Microsoft’s rapid expansion in the software+services markets. I designed new infrastructure components to
automate, manage, and repair these core services. Some key technologies that were used in these designs included Windows
Advanced Host Firewall, Group Policy, SCOM, SCCM, SCVM, Hyper-V, Windows Azure, PKI/X.509 Certificates, IPSec, Active
Directory and Kerberos, claims-based authentication services, interoperability between foreign-entity security boundaries (AD
Forests, Kerberos realms, etc), and networking technologies. I worked closely with external Partners and internal product groups
such as Hotmail, Windows Live! and BPOS (all flavors) to drive design changes and to provide guidance in regards to the
requirements for datacenter scale operations.
I acted as the Principal Architect and GPM for the datacenter virtualization initiative code-named Prometheus that resulted in
Microsoft’s private cloud initiative and spear-headed the host-based security initiative that will reduce networking ACLs in large
datacenters by as much as 60%. Provided thought leadership in migrations to Azure and public/private cloud interoperability.
Independent Contractor (August 2006 – June 2008), Denver, CO –Consulting Architect:
During my time with Microsoft there were several companies that had serious critical situation problems that we were unable to
help due to antagonistic relations between the companies and Microsoft. When the MTC in Austin closed, I saw an opportunity
to develop a revenue stream by reaching out to these companies and solving a problem for Microsoft and said companies.
Xtreme Consulting (January 2008-June 2008): Redmond, WA –Principal Architect:
I was assigned as a senior engineer responsible for the redesign of the Microsoft Online Services’ Active Directory
environment to accommodate the new Microsoft Business Online Services offering.
Avanade (July 2007 January 2008): New York, NY –Senior Infrastructure Architect:
I was assigned as the lead architect to the worst critical situation producer worldwide for Exchange server (American
International Group or AIG). The result of the remediation effort and the new design was a reduction in critsits so that
they were no longer a top producer. Responsible for transforming their people, processes and technology into an
acceptable IT environment for a Fortune 10 company, stabilizing their current environment and planning a migration
for 180,000 users to Exchange 2007 (in a resource forest) from multiple platforms including Exchange 5.5, Exchange
2000, Exchange 2003, Notes and Sun Mail. Customer has in excess of 14 forests and more than 77 physical locations
worldwide. There was a heavy Google compete element in this project.
EMC Corporation (August 2006 July 2007): Denver, CO –Microsoft Consulting Practice, Enterprise
Solutions Architect:
Lead a remediation project with one of the top worldwide Exchange critical situation producers (Universal Music
Group) and was responsible for the reduction in critsits that saw them removed from this notorious list. I completed
projects such as Active Directory design and deployment, multi-forest coexistence/consolidation and ISA design and
deployment. Completed an Exchange 2007 design for a large (220,000 seat) retail customer. I also personally delivered
several additional Exchange 2007 projects with several companies including Qwest communications. Qualified

component met the technical needs and market pressures of today. I conceptualized and implemented Microsoft Exchange
Titanium Ranger Program/Community: this community was hailed as the top technical community within Microsoft and the
training was the basis for the Microsoft Certified Architect Depth Training and also provided a career path for the technical field
that wished to enter the product group. More than a dozen of the 48 certified Rangers were hired by the product group. I handled
critical situation escalations for internal Microsoft and Partner consulting organizations. Heavy Customer and Partner interaction,
product testing, thought leadership with regards to both the Exchange Product as well as consulting and training methodologies
were required. I capitalized on opportunities to speak at engagements such as IT Forum in Europe and MGB in the United States
