Development of a visual tool to allow service engineers to develop diagnostic procedures to be used in the field. This tool is based on MS Windows, and allows the engineer to draw the procedure along the lines of a flowchartWrote the code to interpret these diagnostic procedures at runtime, including the ability to suspend and resume execution at any point, and the ability to back step through the procedureAs the in-bay tool is based on MS-DOS, I wrote a multi-tasking extension to MS-DOS to allow for simultaneous operations. This was used to perform such operations as preloading of diagnostic procedures, display of graphic images, and communications with various hand-held computer devices.Designed and implemented communications protocols between the PC based system and the handheld devices. The initial communication was via an RS-232 port, but later generations of the tool moved to a GPIB interface. These protocols provided for transparent error detection and correction.

Web-based RSS Aggregator

This is a personal project, rather than anything I’ve done for an employer. is a tool to allow people to monitor multiple RSS feeds by consolidating them into a single page, order by posting date. This project uses PHP, RSS, and PostgreSQL.Web-based Security Library

Managed a project to provided a standard security library for . This system will provide an object oriented interface to all web-enabled applications. The project was awarded to based on a proposal that I had developed.Software Respository

Managed a project for to assist in the collection and disemmination of new technologies, using a web-based front end to a database running on a Unix server. This project is developed primarily in Perl, and I was responsible for the development of a standard library for database access at .Virtual Tryout Shop (VTS) internal project

A web-based interface to a complex tool which simulates the operation of stamping a vehicle body panel from a piece of sheet metal. The tool was powerful, but very cumbersome to use. Our team built a simplified front end and a graphical display of the results, making the tool accessible to many more engineers.

My roles included:

RTCaption

Working with a local provider of real time captioning services, I developed software for Windows 95 which allows them to use their existing captioning system to send the data to a word processor or other windows-based application, rather than a television display. This has allowed them to offer a unique service to other businesses: they set up “chat sessions” via the Internet, with an expert in the field being discussed acting as the host. However, instead of the host having to type in responses, s/he simply talks, and the captioner transfers the words directly into the chat application, much faster and more accurate than could be accomplished via normal typing.Security Consulting

After a break in at a major ISP, I was called in to consult with them on methods to secure their site from future attacks, and to detect attempted attacks.
