He has initiated new research projects and directions on R & D activities at KSRCT, Tiruchengode for
the past three years.
Centre for Nano Science and Technology (www.nanotech.ksrct.ac.in) w as established at K.S.
Rangasamy College of Technology, Tiruchengode under his co-ordination, considering the potential
benefits of nanotechnology, a need for the industrial and academic community to support
nanotechnology applications. Presently, the centre concentrates on different broad areas of research in
nanotechnology namely, the production of nanometal oxides from natural minerals/resources for
refractory applications, nanobiomaterials for drug delivery and implant applications, nanotextiles,
nanoagriculture and nanoherbal products for biomedical applications. State of the art facilities in nano
technology have b een established with an investment of more than Rs.10 crores to cater to the needs of
the researchers. The total cost of the ongoing sponsored research projects is more than Rs.2 crores from
different funding agencies like DST (Nano Mission), DRDO, IGCAR, UGC-DAE CSR etc. The centre
is also looking for industrial partnership on frontier areas of nanotechnology.
KSRCT has been recognized as a scientific and industrial research organisation (SIROs) by DSIR,
Ministry of Science and Technology, New Delhi which facilitates to import equipment from abroad
without customs duty.
Presently, he is the President, A coustical Society of India (ASI) since December 2009.
As a Co-Ordinator, he has established an exclusive research lab i.e., N ano Science and Technology
Research Centre (NSTRC) at his former institute (Mepco Schlenk Engineering College, Sivakasi), a
first of its kind under private sector in India, where he has carried out his research and academic
activities for more than 14 years.
He was responsible for the D esign, launching and maintenance of the Acoustical Society of India
official website during his tenure as General Secretary.
He was instrumental in establishing an indigenous high temperature ultrasonic on-line materials
characterisation experimental set-up to explore the microstructural changes in various materials over
wide r ange of temperatures w ith the support of Board of Research in Nuclear Science and Indira
Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research, f irst of its kind in India and the same was acclaimed in the
IGC Newsletter on Page 4, volume 65, July 2005 issue.
Very recently one of his books on Science and Technology of Ultrasonics has been Published in
Russian Language (ISBN 5-948**-***-**, ISBN 1-84265-066-1), (Authors Dr. Baldev Raj, Dr. V.
Rajendran and Dr. P.Palanichamy).
Two of his book namely Engineering Physics and Materials Science have been prescribed as a text
book by many universities in India like Anna University (Chennai, Coimbatore, Trichy & Tirunelveli),

Physics, UK, Acoustical Society of India and Ultrasonic Society of India and holds life membership in
more than 14 scientific societies both in India and abroad.
Research Expertise and Achievements
He has more than 16 years of experience both in teaching and research in the field of materials science
and nanotechnology.
Under his guidance, five Ph.D . have been awarded. Presently, 2 scholars are writing their Ph.D. thesis
while 9 doctoral scholars are pursuing their r esearch for Ph.D.
Presently, he is the Principal Investigator of a sponsored research project (Rs.1.25/- crores) by i)
Department of Science and Technology (DST), New Delhi, under Nano Science and Technology
Initiative (NSTI) programme i.e., N ano Mission Project, ii) Defence Research Development
Organisation (DRDO), New Delhi, iii) Department of Atomic Energy, IGCAR, Kalpakkam and iii)
UGC-DAE CSR, Indoor.
As a Principal Investigator, he is waiting for two new projects with a total cost of Rs.1.10/- crores from
sponsoring organisations like DST and DRDO .
He was the Principal Investigator for five completed sponsored (CSIR, DST, BRNS, IGCAR &
INMAS) research projects with a funding of Rs.1.75/- crores.
Under his Chairmanship/Convenership, a total of Rs.20/- lakhs have been received for oranising
