Machined and (3D) printed mechanical components, wired actuator and sensor circuitry, and programmed a microcontroller to implement PID position control for a fast and stable puck trajectory. Integrated several precision bearings and two commercial DC motors to cleverly induce the required three degrees of freedom (pivot angle, radial deflection, height) while staying within the allowed $50 budget. Competed against three other groups and won first place with the best course time of 31 seconds. Carbon Fiber Sandwich Composites Fall 2010 Lead a team of three to research, design, and fabricate carbon fiber composite specimens and experimentally test them in accordance to ASTM standards to evaluate flexural behavior and impact/fracture resistance. Computed the specific flexural modulus and impact energy at failure through analyzing force vs. deflection data obtained via a 4-point bend test on an Instron Universal Testing Machine. Compiled tables, figures, and statistical relevance in a tidy report to show group and class-wide data trends. Obtained a higher specific flexural modulus than 2/3 of the class despite using the lowest density core material.Work Experience: Axcelis Technologies Inc. (Mechanical Design Co-op) Beverly, MA Fall 2011 Served as part of a multidisciplinary team to design, manufacture, test, document, and ship a $2.5 million ion implanter containing an industry first heated-implant upgrade. Executed critical installations of complex (and expensive) ion implantation subsystems and performed the testing, tuning, and troubleshooting required to bring the tool up to working condition (cycling wafers with beam running). Resolved numerous customer specific requests to improve and expand the capabilities of Axcelis installed base of both single-wafer and multi-wafer ion implanters. Adhered to aggressive time frames to design key components of complex electromechanical systems, often integrating commercial components with my own custom designs. Designed, procured, tested, and sold several wafer carriers, brackets, wafer handling end effectors, pneumatic & hydraulic fittings, vacuum-compatible interface plates, beam line shields, and sensing apparatuses. Conformed to ISO, RoHS, SEMI, and other recognized standards to ensure quality and universality of my designs. Fanning Builders (General Carpenter) Ipswich, MA Summer 2010 Exhibited exceptional carpentry skills in a diverse and ever-changing work environment on projects that ranged from screened-in porch fix-ups to residential second story additions. Practically applied knowledge of engineering and problem-solving to adapt to and safely overcome any situation. Patton Park Summer Camp (Assistant Director, Counselor) Hamilton, MA 2004-2009 Responsibly helped direct a camp of 300-400 children ages 5-12 by providing a safe and enjoyable environment while effectively mediating parent, staff, and camper conflicts.Technical Skills:Working knowledge of material testing equipment, Matlab, AutoCAD (2D), Pro/E & SolidWorks (3D), Ansys (FEA), Fluent (CFD),Microsoft or Apple (any OS, Word, Excel, Powerpoint etc.), Macromedia Flash, Adobe Photoshop, Machine Shop Experience.Activities and Hobbies:American Society of Mechanical Engineers 2010-PresentIntramural Soccer (Captain) and Volleyball 2008-PresentQuantum, Newtonian, Relativistic, and Theoretical Physics 2007-PresentHiking/Backpacking 2006-PresentOrigami 1997-Present
