Software Engineer Co-op, Foursquare, San Francisco, CA Spring 2012 - Summer 2012

Migrated all of foursquare s search backend and search infrastructure from Solr to ElasticSearch as part of a

two-man team. Maintained, extended, and supported foursquare s open source type-safe query DSL for

both Solr and ElasticSearch. Added new search ranking signals and algorithms. Automated the offline

generation of data for these signals using foursquare s MapReduce pipeline with Scoobi and Pig.

Experimented and evaluated the cascading DSL Scalding for use in foursquare s MapReduce pipeline.

Software Engineer Intern, Intuit, San Diego, CA Spring 2011 - Summer 2011

Designed, implemented, documented, and tested Java web services to be consumed by internal teams.

Developer on Intuit MoneyCard Android application up through preparing for submission to the Android

Marketplace. Rapidly developed customer facing web pages and helped implement email service delivery

service.

Software Engineer Intern, RunKeeper, Boston, MA Summer 2010 - Fall 2010

Implemented analytical metrics deck for system admins to monitor product performance using JSP and

Stripes framework. Designed and optimized PostgreSQL queries that scale well in a quickly growing

environment.

Software Development Engineer Intern, Amazon, Seattle, WA Spring 2010 - Summer 2010

Managed a project from inception and implementation through deployment, while collaborating with other

teams to assess the performance of software. Extended the Product Ad Team s targeting to include flavors

of behavioral targeting. Proposed algorithms to extend and enhance the implemented behavioral targeting,

and implemented additional similarities-based targeting logic.
