Education

Master of Science in Computer Science, 2011

University of Wisconsin Madison, Madison, WI, USA

Bachelor of Information Technology, 2005

National University of Sciences and Technology, Islamabad, Pakistan

Research Experience

Research Assistant, June 2010 Present

Human-Computer Interaction Lab, University of Wisconsin Madison, Madison, WI, USA

Developed algorithms and tools for building computational understanding of human social behaviors in

communications (e.g. listener backchannel feedback), implemented these behaviors on a human-like robot, and

empirically evaluated the e ectiveness of the behavioral design through human studies.

Research Assistant, September 2008 May 2010

e Condor Project, University of Wisconsin Madison, WI, USA

Developed support for running Hadoop based MapReduce jobs on Condor cluster; added storage features to Condor

for handling data intensive tasks. My work enabled assembly of whole human genome information by one of our

collaborators (resulting in a university press release).

Industry Experience

So ware Engineer, May 2006 November 2007

California Institute of Technology, Pasadena CA, USA

Developed so ware to support e cient storage and transfer of large scale scienti c data across di erent

geographically spread sites; contributed to Caltech bandwidth challenge at Supercomputing 2007.

So ware Engineer, October 2005 March 2006

CERN - European Organization for Nuclear Research, Geneva, Switzerland

Developed a system to monitor a large scale geographically spread infrastructure of computing sites, enabling

administrators to quickly identify infrastructure problems using visual diagnostic reports generated by the system.

Outreach Experience

Organized and presented at multiple outreach programs for middle and high school students; introducing students to

di erent aspects of human-robot interaction and inspiring them to take up relevant disciplines in future.

Designed demonstrations of a humanoid robot; presented them at multiple events such as the National Robotics

Week and Wisconsin Science Festival; educating the public about advancements in the use of robotics in daily life.

President of the student chapter of IEEE (2004), leading e orts to introduce students to development in industry and

research through technical workshops and seminars.
