Taunton River Watershed Alliance & Taunton River Watershed Campaign (Taunton, MA)
Conducted prospect research and crafted foundation grant plan for the Alliance; provided strategic planning.
organizational development and grants management counsel to the Campaign, a coalition of ten
environmental organizations, including Save The Bay, The Trustees of Reservations, Massachusetts
Audubon Society and the Taunton River Watershed Alliance. (2006-2008)
AQUIDNECK LAND TRUST (2000 - 2005)
Executive Director. Designed & managed comprehensive five-year strategic planning process. Served as
chief spokesperson. Extensive public speaking. Managed organization and budget; 25 member Board; 6
staff and various consultants. During my tenure, preserved acres tripled (from 500 to over 1,600), general
operating reserve fund doubled to $468,000. Designed and launched $20 million capital campaign and
secured $9 million in first year. Established 3 endowments. Managed (and renewed) an $8.15 million
collaborative grant with three foundations. Served on Campaign Executive Committee for two Rhode Island
statewide open space bonds ($34 million in 2000; $70 million in 2004), both of which passed
overwhelmingly.
RHODE ISLAND ZOOLOGICAL SOCIETY (1997 - 2000)
Senior Managing Director, Development. Responsible for acquisition of major individual, foundation, and
corporate capital, program and endowment gifts; identification, cultivation, and solicitation of prospects; and
creation/ management of high-level fundraising and stewardship events. Member, senior management
team. Designed and implemented comprehensive strategic fundraising plan and budget. Directed installation
of inaugural WAN computer network over 40-acre Zoo campus. Supervised 5-person staff.

Director of Development. Responsible for comprehensive major gifts program (individuals, corporate and
foundation) for annual and capital support. Created and managed high-level special events, including
recruitment of celebrities and leadership volunteers. Staffed Board Governance, Fund Development and
Strategic Planning Committees. Increased audited revenues 531%: $236,406 to $1,255,920. Member,
senior management team. Managed philanthropic, community and volunteer response to two massive oil
spills in Narragansett Bay (World Prodigy, 1989; North Cape & Scandia, 1996). Created department in 1985;
produced annual fundraising plans and budgets. Supervised staff of 4.
NATURAL RESOURCES DEFENSE COUNSEL (NRDC), Washington, DC (1980 - 1982)
Assistant to International Program. Researched and helped to edit white papers on endangered plant
conservation and tropical ecology; assisted US Whaling Commissioner and served on American delegation
to 32nd Annual Meeting of the International Whaling Commission meeting (Brighton, UK 1982).
OCEAN RESEARCH & EDUCATION SOCIETY, Boston, MA (1976-1980)
Deputy Director. Managed marine mammal ecology program on board r/v Regina Maris, 180 barkentine.
Worked with internationally recognized biologists, including Dr. Roger Payne, Katherine Payne, Dr. Howard
Winn, Dr. Steven Katona, Dr. Oliver Brazier and Dr. Judith Perkins, to record humpback whale acoustics,
identify individual whales, and document migratory behavior. Recruited up to 50 college and post-graduate
students per semester. Travelled extensively, at sea.
