Experience:
Research Assistant, Department of Botany, Field Museum of Natural History/ Department
of Pharmacognosy, College of Pharmacy, University of Illinois at Chicago. Oct 2008-April
2009. Assisted in grant writing. Maintained University plant specimens at the Field Museum
Herbarium. Received, organized, and catalogued incoming plant specimen collections.
Responsible for entering specimen information into NAPIS database.
Research Technician, Northwestern University, Department of Radiation Oncology/
Department of Cell and Molecular Biology. September 2007-June 2009.
1) Investigated glucose coated CoFe2 O4 @TiO2 nanoparticle and HPV-L1 viral protein
distribution in HPV infected rabbits. Investigated glucose coated CoFe04@Ti02 distribution in
C3(1)/SV40 Tag transgenic mice. Performed immunohistochemical staining on tissues using
primary and fluorescing secondary antibodies, nucleic acid stains, and post stains. Imaged using
UV confocal microscopy. Performed immunohistochemical staining on tissue using
Haematoxylin and Eosin, imaged using light microscopy. Compared H & E data to
immunofluorescence data.
2) Investigated homozygous plus and minus immunodeficient and radiosensitive mice for
expression of PCNA and P53-S15 proteins in lymphocytes: Harvested organs, isolated
lymphocytes, performed immunofluorescent staining on lymphocytes using primary and
fluorescing secondary antibodies, created slides with non adherent cells, imaged with UV
confocal microscopy. Analyzed and quantified protein expression using Image J software.
3) Investigated mouse model DNA cleavage in homozygous plus and minus animals using SFGE
(single field gel electrophoresis). Analyzed data using Image Quant TL software
4) Investigated excitation and emission spectra of core shell nanoparticles coated in Alizarin Red
S, in solutions of PBS and water with BSA.
5) Performed laboratory procedures as needed: Maintained mouse colony and cell library.
Performed western analysis, quantitative and real-time PCR. Isolated DNA and RNA from
mouse tissues. Genotyped mice. Performed gel electrophoresis. Cultured cell line PC-12.
Prepared buffers. Organized and presented data. Operated a Cesium-137 gamma irradiator.
Maintained lab instruments and lab supplies.
Laboratory Technician, University of Chicago Department of Radiation Oncology. June
2003-March 2004. June 2000-August 2001. Investigated the role of transcription factor Stat1 in
acquired radiosensitivity of tumor cells. Cultivated tumor cell lines, SCC61, Nu61, SQ20B
(models for Stat1 investigation). Performed RNA purification and total protein purification from
cell lines and tumor xenografts. Performed western analysis of Stat1, pStat1 and related proteins.
Analyzed IFN-alpha and IFN-beta measurements developing semi-quantitative ELISA assays.
Investigated Lewis Lung Carcinoma metastases using H&E staining and light microscopy.
Created slides for further investigation. Analyzed and interpreted data. Maintained and ordered
lab supplies.
Teacher, English as a Second Language: Botus Szkola Jezykowe Warszawa. 2004-2006.
Diloga Escuela de Idiomas, 2006-2007. Taught grammar, vocabulary, and conversation in
Warsaw, Poland and Barcelona, Spain to children and adults, beginning through advanced levels.
Tutored individual students and taught classes at the language academies and at local elementary
schools.
Volunteer, Department of Botany, Field Museum/ Atkins Medicinal Plant Garden, College
of Pharmacy, University of Illinois at Chicago. Feb 2008-August 2008. Assisted in sorting and
labeling plant specimens from Southeast Asia, noting the presence of flowers or seeds.
Reformatted Atkins Garden Plant Map and list. Recorded species and locations. Assisted in
routine garden maintenance, weeding, pinching off old growth, and watering. Participated as a
garden guide at the 2008 Atkins Medicinal Plant Garden Walks, Aug. 21-22, 2008.
