PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
University of Texas at Austin Austin, TX Sep 2010 Present
Graduate Research Assistant
Advisers: Dr. R. Bruce Eldridge and Dr. Roger Bonnecaze
Dissertation: Characterization of Structured Packing via Computational Fluid Dynamics
Performed computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations of a lab-scale column packed with
Mellapak N250Y structured packing.
Results of CFD simulations will be used to develop a simplified, mechanistic model for predicting
packing performance.
Neutron radiography was used to determine liquid holdup in various types of structured packing.
Programs written in IDL were used to analyze the data.
Total Petrochemicals Houston, TX May 2011 Aug 2011
Process Research Intern
Designed experimental methods to evaluate the efficiency of different catalysts.
Characterized catalyst performance using various analytical methods.
Developed simulations and spreadsheets for use in experimental design.
University of Wyoming Laramie, WY
May 2010 Aug 2010
Graduate Research Assistant
Supervised and assisted undergraduates performing research in applied mathematics.
As a group, successfully implemented a numerical simulation for flow passed a cylinder.
Validated numerical method with experimental observations.
May 2009 May 2010
Teaching Assistant
Tutored students in fluid mechanics, transport phenomena, and unit operations.
Served as a grader for the above courses.
May 2007 Aug 2010
Undergraduate Research Assistant
Mathematics
Independently wrote a FORTRAN program capable of simulating a two-dimensional water wave.
Post-processing of all data accomplished via a separate Matlab program.
Dec 2008 May 2009
Undergraduate Research Assistant
Biointerfacial Engineering Lab
Worked in a group to successfully grow recombinant bacteria capable of producing spider silk proteins.
Purified spider silk proteins for use in cell adhesion studies.
