ExperienceSoftware Release Engineer/Software Engineer ( Feb 2001 - Present)
Advanced Visual Systems Inc,Waltham MA
AVS Express, the world's most popular scientific visualization software is the industry standard in platform-independent, visual computing software and application development. AVS helps application developers, scientists, and engineers develop graphics-based applications and perform data visualization and analysis.
Supervisor : Stephen H Olson
Principal Software Engineer, AVS Express Technical Team
(, MIT Lincoln Lab)
Work : Design, port, debug and release tasks of AVS/Express Software on Windows, Linux (32 & 64 bit), Mac/Darwin, Solaris (32 & 64bit)
o
During release, my responsibilities included
project management through release cycle of AVS/Express on several high end
platform/architectures namely Windows, Linux - RedHat8/9/Enterprise Linux
2.1/3.0 (32 bit), RedHat Linux Itanium (64 bit), Mac OS X/Darwin,
SUN Solaris (32bit & 64bit), IBM RS 6000 AIX, HP-UX 11(32 &
64bit) SGI IRIX (N32 & N64).
o
Developed
InstallShield Project for AVS/Express Multipipe Edition on Windows with custom
installation option for AVS/Express Master component, AVS/Express Node
component & CaveLib component.
o
Automated release
engineering (build, test and release) for AVS/Express by writing Perl and shell
scripts. The scripts supported branch, label & changelist options
provided by Perforce SCM
o
Worked in the
re-implementation of AVS/Express core Object Manager and components implemented
in C/C++ to handle large datasets. Quantities
like the number of nodes in a field and array dimensions can be represented by
64-bit integers (on 64-bit platforms).
o
Studied readFLD and readUCD field file format and implemented
writeFLD (AVS field file to read and write data) and writeUCD (Unstructured
Cell Data format) file formats in C.
o
Implemented
examples in Java/C to demonstrate the ability to read different data types
using HDF file format in AVS/Express.
o
Ported
AVS/Express to Darwin 7/Mac OS X, RedHat 8, 9, RedHat Enterprise Linux 3.0
and RedHat 2.1 on Itanium.
o
Identified and
fixed memory leaks in Graphics Display (GD) Kit of AVS/Express using Valgrind
and Purify memory debug tools.
o
Developed ActiveX
Control Demo Project explaining how to use AVS/Express & Microsoft Visual
C++ to create an ActiveX Control.Teaching Assistant (Aug 1999 - Dec 2000)
Department of Computer Science, University of Missouri-Columbia, USA.
Courses : Object Oriented Programming using Java
Algoithm Design & Programming
Organized the course material, lectured, set & graded assignments, monthly test & final exam, office hours, final grading.
Software Engineer Intern (June 1999 - Aug 1999)
NASA Goddard,Washington D.C.
Program : Visiting Student Enrichment Program

Mentor :
Michael Manyin
The (IISS) was developed as a scientific visualization tool for NASA's Mission to Planet Earth program to enable quantitative visualization and analysis of large datasets from earth observing system satellites, especially with meteorological applications. The IISS is an interactive visual spreadsheet collaborative environment for visualizing, interpreting, comparing, organizing, and analyzing extremely large hyper-image remote sensing datasets and 3-D volumetric numerical model results. During this on-going research, implemented - a high performance platform independent implementation of Loop module of IISS.worked on implementing bitwise image processing operators in C & C++ for different data types.
